Now we have to wait and see if we get a camera switch to one in the high bay.

Hi Chris -- hope you got some good sleep -- that ended up being a late night sling operation for you guys across the pond.

A quick question: how much clearance is there on each side during the translation to the high bay?

I'm curious in how they do this too. I take it there isn't enough clearance to get the orbiter through the other high bay by moving it perpendicular to how it go tin there? So it has to be rotated through a smaller space, much like you'd move a couch through a standard door? :P

After rotating the vehicle to a vertical attitude and removing the aft spreader beam from the lifting fixture, the crane rotates the orbiter 45 degrees. There are marks on the floor to assist this. See photo - the gap in the ironwork behind the orbiter is the path to the high bay.

That's one amazing image.

The crane hook rotates under control of the crane operator.

Speaking of the crane operator, where does he/she work from?  Is there an operating platform inside the crane?  If so, I'd love to see a picture from that spot!!

I looked back at the 118 rollover thread, and it took 50 minutes from first motion to transfer isle.  I guess they must be able to speed things up when weather is threatening.

Looks like the cut out the photo op like they did with Endeavour.

It looks like they did the photo op.  Probably made it quick.

That must be some view over the highbays from up there! Really cool to speak to someone who's actually been up there!

Watched the B-Roll footage of Rollover to the VAB, found this nice shot.  Should post something like this in high resolution!

Thanks for the insight Pad Rat.  Truly some amazing engineering within that structure.  The crane operator must have one heck of a view from up there.  I'm guessing he/she's around 500 ft. above the floor.  So many windows at such great altitude...wow!  Anyway, sorry to get OT but that's interesting.  Back to STS-120 ;)
