i remember one launch of the soyuz where there was no external shot of it launching,
just the views of the crew being vibrated at launch and occaisionaly waving on the way up,
then into zero g,
but the comentator (skynews ?) didn't realise it'd launched till it was almost in orbit
he was wondering why there was such a long delay (lol)

There is no rocketcam like the ones you are used to see in the shuttle or american unmanned launches. There is however a camera inside the descent module of the Soyuz TMA where one can see the crew from launch until it enters Earth orbit.

Wait, I'm confused because you say there is and others say there isn't. I don't mean the camera looking at the astronauts but the one looking outside. Do they fly this one every manned launch?

Ok then, has there been any Soyuz flight with a rocketcam pointing at the *exterior* of the rocket? From Satori's answer I'm guessing no.

No, there is no such camera on Soyuz-U or Soyuz-FG!

Now this would be awesome. :)  It could be done, similar to the old rocketcams used in teh early US spaceprogram. For example the Saturn 1B and V cams after finishing filming were released and parachuted back to be recovered.

There is this cool animation tvroscosmos made that is close to a rocketcam view of a soyuz launch. IMO awesome. :)

I wonder why these animations weren't shown during a NASA TV broadcast of a Soyuz launch? They would help explain to the viewer what is going on during the launch. in the animation it shows the orange  painted section of the third stage is a skirt that comes off. I never knew that.
