SpaceX Maiden Launch Webcast
« on: 11/20/2005 06:24 pm »
I am so excited about the launch coming up next Friday!

What's the status of webcast availability? The press release says it will be limited.

I sent Chris a PM indicating that ACCESS Space Foundation stands ready to provide the bandwidth if Chris can use his abilities to acquire the signal.

I'm just posting this to make sure the PM doesn't get lost in the shuffle . . . and I'll not say more on it til I hear back from Chris . . .

Never got your PM mate - mail me at [email protected] as that'll be easier :)

Welcome to the site by the way.

As far as the webcast, our writer on Private Space Flight, Braddock, has done a great job in getting on well with the SpaceX people, so I'm hoping something can be sorted out. Right now the launch is a Media Event only. No one but media are allowed to get the webcast, apparently.

Nothing that can't be seen about ;)

Off topic, but: Chris, every time I'e sent you a PM you haven't gotten it either. Perhaps a bug in the system?

OK, re-sending via e-mail. I know how it is with too many message lists to check . . .

The idea is that this site is 'media' and they like you, so they give you the access to the feed, but we provide the bandwidth on our servers. A cooperative effort by this site and by ACCESS.

Replied - and I'm all for this if it's workable on the SpaceX side of things.

Ben - I'll talk to the webmasters, as the PM system on here doesn't seem all that great :(

Yeah, it seems like outgoing messages languish in the outbox forever.  I've tried to figure out when it actually sends the mail, like whether it's when the sender logs out, or the recipient logs in, or if both are online, etc.

No joy.

BTW, I've sent you a reply, Chris.

I did receive a message once, and I replied but after that I never heard back from them. (If that person is out there, it was about space modeling, and I would be happy to answer if you want to email me: [email protected]).

Well SpaceX (excellent PR) have noted they 'don't' have a bandwidth issue. Their reasons for not webcasting it past (what appears now to be only the media at their event in California) are their own, but not techincal.

Of course, the launch has weather issues, not to mention the highly unlikely event of it launching on the first attempt.

What was the reason Ben, and will it still be 1pm on Saturday as the opening of the window?

They say range issues. I'm always at odds with those decisions, as range activities are usually planned well ahead of time.
