Looks like it's raining at KSC. Watching the webcams there. Atlantis is still outside.

Why did they zoom out the camera so? You cant make out whats going on with the Orbiter now.
The radar shows rain real close

Edit: Seriously who is running camera 81?

Besides the tiles absorbing water am I correct in assuming there is no real damage that can be inflicted on her? Since they are in the early stages of processing my impression is that any absorbed water will have plenty of time to be burned off under some high powered lights.

FWIW, even though it didn't happen at Edwards this time, the orbiter is mostly exposed there just like it is right now.

No. That is why Atlantis got soaked during rainstorm Edwards following the landing there after STS-104. She had to be dried out in the OPF using heat-lamps.
By the way, just to note, it was after STS-98 in prep for 104 which was delayed a few weeks as a result of this.

And now they switched the camera away.

Edge of a pretty heavy rainshower just passed by the shuttle, they got about 45 minutes of some light rain (but looked to miss the worse, just to the west.)

Nice work John! (Didn't realize there was a car park so close by until I checked again on Google Earth!)

Anyone know if they have managed to lift the Orbiter off the SCA yet?
Running blind as NASA has NO public camera views of that area currently.

Isn't that sad

All I see on CNN and SKY is Iraq, the terror threat in the UK and Scooter Libby!! Sure these things require a lot of news but one would think the major news networks could spare 15-20 minutes to cover something less depressing (and far more interesting).

I realize that all of this is weather dependant but, how long does it normally take to get the shuttle off the SCA once it arrives the MDD? Also, do we know when they're planning on towing Atlantis to her OPF?

Where is the SCA's homebase? KSC? If not when can we expect to see her fly again? And where to?

I would expect 905 to fly back out to Edwards pretty soon after Atlantis have been demated to support STS-118.
