30 miles so far! You know with cameras getting as small as they are and requiring only so much bandwith I'm surprised NASA hasnt put a few on the SCA to let us watch as she heads east.

mrpoptop - 1/7/2007 9:17 AM looking at the flight plan on FlightAware it shows: HEC EED DRK ZUN ABQ TCC PNH. What do all of those abreviations stand for? jayson
That is the VOR's (VORTACs) that the flight will take aka the flight plan.
HEC - HECTOR (HECTOR, CA)
EED - NEEDLES (NEEDLES, CA)
DRK - DRAKE (PRESCOTT, AZ)
ZUN - ZUNI (ZUNI PUEBLO, NM)
ABQ - ALBUQUERQUE (ALBUQUERQUE, NM)
TCC - TUCUMCARI (TUCUMCARI, NM)
PNH - PANHANDLE (AMARILLO, TX)

So with a stop in Amarillo for refueling, where would the next stop be after that?

Those are the abbreviations/identifiers for the various navigational fixes along the route of flight. The 3 letter identifiers are for NAVAIDs such as the VOR/TACAN. Numbers with V or J in front of them depict jet or victor airways, and 5 letter identifiers are normally radial intersections. Typically they use VORs & TACANs, radial intersections, and other airfields as the fixes.

Then you need receiving stations on the ground that can receive the radio signals from those cameras.

I'm not sure if they can "one hop" it from there to the Cape...it would depend on winds and weather. If fuel is needed the best guess for stops - weather along the route being the biggest factor - would be Tyndall (Florida), Eglin (Florida), Warner Robins (Georgia), Moody ? (also in Georgia but I don't recall if the runway length is enough).

KSC is reporting that after getting gas at Amarillo they want to target Offutt AFB in Nebraska for the overnight stay...weather along the route is driving this.
I would not bet on anything until they land at AMA, get gas, and review the weather.

Just like it should be as it flies weather reconn for the SCA.

Drat. If I were in Lubbock right now I'd head up there. But Amarillo is a bit far for a day trip and I have to study

Thanks for the coverage guys. Great to see her on her way home.
