We'll start this thread now, although there's not a lot of information at this time (working on it).

Atlantis is on ground power and aligned with platforms on the MDD. Everything is going well and she might be heading home at the end of the week, over the weekend and back in Florida next Sunday/Monday.

Do we have a list of bases she'll be stopping at along the way? I remember Discovery stopping off in Oklahoma and Louisiana before making the final hop to Florida.

Seems like it would be weather-dependent...or at least weather forecast dependent.

Okay. Well, I'm only 90 minutes from Dyess AFB in Abilene, TX. Columbia paid the base a visit on top of the STA back in 2001 when they shipped her back to KSC from Palmdale after her final OMDP. If Atlantis stops there next week and I can get off work, I'm going to go up there and try to get some pictures/video for you guys.

This site is probably a good place to find out what the plans are when they are ready to ferry.

As I planned

Keep me posted and I'll see if this little roadtrip will happen.

Just FYI-
Current plan and schedule is to mate to SCA on Friday (i.e. be ready to leave late Friday). SCA will leave Dryden on Saturday morning.
Doesn't mean it will happen that way...

From USA:
For the landing ops at Dryden in California, USA KSC personnel were deployed as follows:
65 USA employees were deployed to Dryden prior to landing, and were at the landing strip when Atlantis landed.
20 USA employees were sent on Friday evening after landing.
120 USA employees were sent to Dryden on Saturday.
Out of that total of 205 employees, about a dozen are IAM slots, and about half of those were IAM employees who crossed the picket line, the rest
were replacements. These folks are logistics personnel who handle storekeeping, packing and crating.
In addition, the following KSC personnel were deployed to Dryden:
50 NASA
11 Boeing
7 Rocketdyne
It is possible some NASA/contractor employees from JSC and Huntingdon Beach also flew to Dryden. I don't have info on that.
Here are the USA numbers for the Atlantis Demate Operation at the SLF MDD at KSC:
103 total USA employees
Of that total 19 are IAM slots (11 Crane Crew, 7 heavy Equipment and 1 Quality Control)
For this mission, those IAM positions will be filled by other, qualified personnel, including many people from the orbiter operations crew that
executed the mate operation in California.

Why must everyone refer to Dryden Flight Research Center as just "Edwards"? We have an identity. The Air Force is not doing the post flight processing, NASA IS. We are proud of our support of the Shuttle Program with over 50 landings at Dryden. Recognize us for who we are.
