Now manuevering to the WSSH L-1 comm check attitude. I think they're still playing to conduct one with DFRC to see if GC's "echo-fix" worked.

Mission elapsed time is now 12 days and 23 hours.
This mission has surpased STS-98 as Atlantis' longest mission so far.

For White Sands--i imagine Rob Navias and PAO office have to send a TV producer and videographer and a satellite truck as they did last time on 116 when we all thought that was going to be a White Sands landing. Any status on the PAO plan for White Sands in the probably off-chance we end up there. Last i knew White Sands doesnt have live TV coverage capability anymore. Also whats the story on the C-17s full of safing equipment as done last time? I imagine the equipment came back to KSC after it wasnt used at NOR and would have to be sent out again right?

Congrats to Atlantis.
(I can hear some of the puritans mumbling "Congrats? It's a machine for pity's sake")

No. Stay with NASA TV and this site. It will be reported whenever the news comes in.

Even saw a PDF I think we put on L2 which showed literally hundreds of alternatives for Shuttle and Soyuz in a big time emergancy...like the very long runway at RAF Fairford in England), but - according to people in the know - that would be very, very unlikely to be required.
I think I've seen this list somewhere on the internet before, though I can't find it now. I do remember in particular that Wallops Island is on the list.
Anybody have the link to it?

Just out of curiosity: Does anyone know which SCA is at Edwards? It seems for the last couple of missions, N905NA has been the SCA of choice for ferrying home the orbiter from Edwards.

I have found it on L2. It's on Page 39 of L2 Shuttle Section, called Full STS Flight Plan and Landing Sites around the world (with diagrams and photos). It is a 23 megabtye, 400 page pdf with all the alternate landing sites, details and color photos of each runway and diagrams of them. I'm glad this was mentioned as it's a fascinting document.

I don't know for sure. but I remeber reading somewhere that N911NA had been put into flyable storage. and that 905 would be used from now on. I guess it was a budget desision based on no more OMDPs at Palmdale and only 3 orbiters left.

What are these cryo tank heater calls they are getting about? Seems they are asked to switch some switches. What's this for and why can't it be done by Atlantis' computers or from the ground?

What you are referring to is the Flight Data File Maps and Charts Book. Chris posted a copy at this link;
http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=3421&
The videos of the STA approaches to KSC and Whitesands that are posted in the L2 video section are from a CD that is controlled by this Maps and Charts Book.

Thanks Mark I must have missed that. I like the Island landing sites like Hao Atoll. They did great to even get a runway on that!
