I wish they would say "stop" instead of "abort" as abort sounds more serious especially when there is no KU available to see what they see.

They use "abort" because that's the name of the PCS command the crew sends to stop the array. Sticking to the standard nomenclature is policy because it prevents confusion between the crew and the ground.
