And remember what they said about clearances between the truss and the shuttle payload bay during STS-115. They got down to tolerances of five inches on one side and one inch on the other. It's a tight operation.

Update on the OMS Pod damage.
One of the presentations we placed into L2 was a very lengthy document on the historical OMS damage since STS-1. Some of the images show that the damage we're seeing on this mission isn't anything, compared to previous flights. So all encouraging that Atlantis will be fine "as-is". We'll wait for the MMT decision though.

I note that Miles O'Brien keeps referring to the torn blanket as "the heat shield." Is he correct or just generalising ?
And is NASA TV playing up at the moment ?
