Yeah...some discussion on L2. Hopefully one of the folks can explain here, too. The Ascent Flight Control Team video replay does have clearer audio.
What it sounds like to me is after the status call "No hold required" to advise on any action is "ET Helium Inject delta-P #2 is out of limits, two of three required for LCC ET-03 (

), we're go."
After GLS calls the auto-sequence start milestone, there's the quick poll from NTD to SPE and the launch director.
And as I noted in the L2 thread, I like Norm Knight's reaction.

Would it be possible to get a quick transcript of what you're talking about? I've tried picking it up, myself, but the PAO calls over it make it impossible for me to make any of it out.
Edit: Oh, "flight directors launch playbacks". I should read more carefully. I'll try to find a video of that.

If you have broadband, it's probably faster to download the video and listen to it; a link ("STS-117 - ASCENT FLIGHT CONTROL TEAM VIDEO REPLAY") has been posted in the 117 Videos thread:

I listened to it probably 20 times and I still couldn't understand what he was saying "good call" about other than "we're going to continue". He looked like he was about to get on the line when a call came back and I just couldn't make it out.

Hopefully we'll get some background on this later, but it was another impressive display by the launch team handling something so late in the count. Given the timeframe, it sounds like they had no margin for error and yet they made it sound so smooth that no one in the traditional press orgs has even
mentioned it that I can see.
Which is too bad, because it sounds like they deserve a little glory for that. (Instead, they get the opposite -- the AP wire headline was so fantastically crappy, I saved a snapshot for later.)

Was it worse than "Patched-up Shuttle Atlantis blasts off"?

Was it worse than "Patched-up Shuttle Atlantis blasts off"?
In my mind, yes: "Debris Falls Off as Shuttle Blasts Off."

I can't quite make it out, but I could swear that after the flight director says "Excellent call, excellent call," he then says something along the lines of "I am going to buy him a case of beer."

I agree with that transcription. This is what I can get from what followed, including what you wrote above:
ET Helium Inject delta-P #2 is out of limits, two of three required for LCC ET-03 (

), we're go.
Booster concurs
NSP NTD are you go?
I'm go.
(inaudible) NTD are you go?
Yes sir.
Attention on the net we're going to continue.
Excellent call. Excellent call.
Payne, I'm buying him a case of beer.

Some embellishment; this is what I'm hearing with my old ears after the console engineer recommendation and report:
Flight on FD loop: Booster?
Booster on FD loop: Booster concurs.
Flight on FD loop: Copy.
GLS: GLS is go for auto-sequence start.
NTD: And SPE, NTD, are you go?
SPE: I'm go.
NTD: Launch director, NTD, are you go?
LD: Yes sir.
NTD: Attention on the net we're going to continue.
Flight (off the comm loops, caught by the video cam mic): Excellent call. Excellent call.
Steve Stich (I'm guessing; also off the loops): Nice.
Flight: Payne, I'm buying him a case of beer.
NTD: Fifteen seconds.
(I believe Stich is serving as the assistant flight director for ascent/entry, though I'm not sure I've got the terminology correct for his position; for earlier missions, the roles were reversed.)

And then just a couple of seconds before main engine start, you can hear Norm Knight saying "Damn, that was good."

I just left all that engineering talk in L2. It was way over my head to make into an article

Well, I have a bad habit of concentrating on the engineering talk on L2 and sometimes forgetting to read your stories...
