November 05, 2021 RELEASE 21-145NASA Selects New Mission to Study Storms, Impacts on Climate ModelsNASA has selected a new Earth science mission that will study the behavior of tropical storms and thunderstorms, including their impacts on weather and climate models. The mission will be a collection of three SmallSats, flying in tight coordination, called Investigation of Convective Updrafts (INCUS), and is expected to launch in 2027 as part of NASA’s Earth Venture Program.NASA selected INCUS through the agency’s Earth Venture Mission-3 (EVM-3) solicitation that sought complete, space-based investigations to address important science questions and produce data of societal relevance within the Earth science field. NASA received 12 proposals for EVM-3 missions in March 2021. After detailed review by panels of scientists and engineers, the agency selected INCUS to continue into development....For more information about NASA’s Earth science programs, visit:https://www.nasa.gov/earth

He said the first stage of the second Alpha rocket will go on a test stand late this week, followed by the second stage. The vehicle should be at Vandenberg in December for a launch planned for late January. If that next launch is successful, Markusic said Firefly plans four more Alpha launches in 2022. That includes a launch for NASA’s Venture Class Launch Services program, slated to be the fourth Alpha launch. The company is working in parallel on its Space Utility Vehicle space tug. Firefly planned to test a thruster for that tug on the first Alpha launch, and Markusic said an “identical technology demo” for it will fly on the next Alpha mission. The first fully functional version of the SUV is scheduled to fly in about 15 months, he projected.Firefly recently completed the critical design review for the Blue Ghost lunar lander that will fly in 2023 on a mission for NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services program.
The first two prototype satellites from Project Kuiper, the internet-from-space venture from the e-commerce giant, are scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter of 2022, Amazon announced on Monday. ...The first two prototype satellites, KuiperSat-1 and KuiperSat- 2, will launch separately on rockets from ABL Space Systems, one of a handful of start-ups building smaller launch vehicles to sate demand from satellite companies. The market for smaller rockets, designed to deliver payloads to space quickly and affordably, is packed with competitors, making ABL’s Amazon contract — good for up to five launches on ABL’s RS1 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Fla. — a boost for the company.
