jimvela - 20/3/2007 5:51 PMThat doesn't make any sense- one of the demonstration elements is a low-cost TDRSS transceiver... You'd think that RF compatibility testing between the launch vehicle and one of the intended payloads would have been performed at the vehicle level and launch (e.g. including the range) configuration long before launch day???

That would explain a TDRS RF conflict. They are not the only TDRS user.
jimvela - 20/3/2007 6:51 PMQuotebraddock - 20/3/2007 4:47 PMThere seems to be an RF conflict between the payload and the TDRSS. They are willing to turn off the TDRSS for this flight because the mission is to demonstrate the vehicle. That doesn't make any sense- one of the demonstration elements is a low-cost TDRSS transceiver... braddock - 20/3/2007 5:59 PMQ: [What payload elements will separate on this flight]A: It is an aluminum ring which is attached to the top half of the [flight bed].

braddock - 20/3/2007 11:07 PM The web cast page has switched to "Watch the Webcast", but I have been unable to get it to launch myself yet (and Gwynne didn't mention success on her end either).
It is running, and there is sound

So we have a passive DemoSat satellite, right? Only if you count the aluminum ring, from what Gwynne just said. She said she specifically didn't want anyone to characterize it as a "mock payload", because they really just want to test separation, and it won't be in orbit for long.

Naturally, appearances, perceptions, and promises are what really count.
