STS-116 Post-MECO UFO
« on: 03/08/2007 04:17 pm »
Check out this video and watch the window next to the PLT.  A small white light appears in the window and appears to float upward.  From all the flashing and such, I'm assuming this is post-MECO and the flashes are the RCS firings.  My guess for the dot is ice.  I don't know if the moon was up that night but it might have had something to do with the brightness of the object.  I'm curious to see if anyone can identify it.  No worries...I'm not saying E.T. but it is a bit of a strange sight!

You can clearly see MECO in that clip because they all move forward against their restraints!! The flashes are almost certainly thrusters during the tank seperation process, they look a lot brighter because the shuttle was launched into orbital darkness. The object is probably ice or similar from the tank - probably thrust lose/forward at MECO.
