Thank's for posting that, It look's like from the picture's a design flaw in the SRB booster's:( doesn't look good for Discovery's booster's

Maybe they should Delay discovery and have the engineer's rebuild the SRB'S

That article was from Feb of 2007, and pertains to the launch PRIOR to Endeavour's launch today.  The article at the root of this thread is not related to todays' launch.

There  hasn't been a whole lot of news about that odd event, but at the same time characterizing it as a design defect is a really long stretch.

If you read the whole article:

'Clearly there's something happening in that rear atmosphere that we need to understand better, (but (we) have made some alterations for this flight (STS-117) and trimmed the insulation back'


and unless you are a Booster engineer quoting this as a design flaw is "a little strong"
