It would be wonderful to see Canada step up its space/space technology programs.  There's no free lunch in this game, but they have a talented and highly educated population and a high technology industrial base -- basically everything they need to succeed.  They only need the will power.   They can make a great contribution if they take the necessary steps now to make themselves a player in the "game of the millennium."

As a Canadian familiar with the industry, I have to say I'm skeptical about the CSA leading anything.  Canadian industry is very good at a few niches, and most of this is despite the help from the CSA.   How many of the funded companies are getting enough to succeed?  CSA only has $300 million a year, with most of that eaten up by bureaucracy and a few large projects like Radarsat 2, 3, whatever.  It really needs a $1.5billion dollar budget to really stay in the game and feed all those hungry mouths in the companies they're giving paltry sums to.
