Press Invitation to the inauguration of Spaceport Sweden

Spaceport Sweden is a co-operation between Swedish Space Corporation , ICEHOTEL, LFV Group (Luftfartsverket) and Kiruna’s business-development company Progressum. The aim of Spaceport Sweden is to make Kiruna Europe’s first and most obvious place for personal suborbital spaceflight.

Virgin Galactic is the world’s first commercial spaceline that will give ordinary people the opportunity to become non-professional astronauts and they have chosen Spaceport Sweden as one of their operational partners.

Virgin Galactic’s mission is to provide excellence in commercialized human sub orbital space flight. Its aim is to create 500 new astronauts within the first year of operation, and up to 50,000 within 10 years of operation.

Place: Arena Arctica, Kiruna Airport

Program:

09:00  Before the event at Arena Arctica, media is invited to visit Kiruna City Hall for a presentation of Swedish Space Corporation as well as visiting the ongoing space exhibition.
10:00  Transfer to Arena Arctica at Kiruna Airport. Transportation is provided.
10:30  Welcome by Olle Norberg, Spaceport Sweden and Head of Esrange Space Center
10.40 Signing of agreement between Virgin Galactic and Spaceport Sweden – Will Whitehorn, President of Virgin Galactic and Claes-Göran Borg, Chairman of Spaceport Sweden and President of Swedish Space Corporation
10:50  Inauguration – Maud Olofsson, Minister for Enterprise and Energy, Deputy Prime Minister, also responsible for government business in the space and tourism areas
11:00 Virgin Galactic – Will Whitehorn, President
11:20 Time for questions

In addition to the already mentioned representatives, Kenneth Stålnacke (Mayor of Kiruna) and Per-Ola Eriksson (County Governor of Norrbotten) will also participate.
