For those not watching, the vehicle was transitioning between different venting modes, and the flare stack sometimes reacted to them.

They're definitely pushing and pulling on things...

ABCD - Always Be Counting Down

Online Galactic Penguin SST

This launch has appeared on https://www.cadenaois.org/vpublic_anspdetail.jsp?view=15#...with a launch window that looks very unrealistic now.

Primary Launch Day 31 Dec 0430Z-0745Z Backup Launch Day (1) 01 Jan 0430Z-0745Z

Yup, there was consideration to launch it on December 30-31, 11:30 pm - 2:45 am EST! The back-up window would have even crossed between 2024 and 2025!

Of more interesting note is the air space closure zones, which shows a launch going straight east.

So they're planning on launching at roughly midnight EST?

I hope their employees get Christmas off now that they won’t launch in 2024. No reason to work them to the bone when a few days difference won’t matter.

Well, it’ll matter to Limp, who no doubt had a bonus contingent on launching this year.

Why would you plan on hobbling all your video recording assets for a first flight?

High def and/or telescopic color video can be shot at night.

Also, the FAA restricts Florida launch windows during holiday seasons to interfere minimally with commercial aviation flights. ✈️

Besides, SLS and Vulcan first flights were at night. Clearly not a big issue for most people

Obviously you *can*.  But why?  What's the advantage?  Why wouldn't you set up your test for the best chance at maximizing the data you gain?

Jim, or another of  our launch gurus, may choose to chime in, but in the meantime, I suspect that all test objectives can be met by a nighttime launch.  Daytime launch footage is not a must have.

What if BOs push for a launch this year is tied to the DoD lane 2 launches? I’m not familiar with that contract vehicle, but I could see them having to wait a whole nuther year before being considered?

This will be Cert 1 for them if the payload does its thing correctly. I’m sure spaceforce doesn’t give a rats tiny hinney if the booster lands. That’s gravy for BO, not DoD.

While I don't excactly read these contracts, the US Government runs on fiscal years, and FY25 started on October 1st...even if it still doesn't have an approved budget. ::)

Even though October is the fiscal year, money takes time to flow. Programs I’m involved in usually don’t get funds till February. New starts are planned to kick off when the money finally trickles down. And we usually get it in two slugs. Second in August. Then there is the ‘race’ to obligate it so your not seen holding a big chunk of money.

Maybe different with non DoD orgs.

So no idea what the contract says.

Well, the two slugs of funding are not typical (I'm not in DoD), but the race to obligate funds so they're not taken back is. :)

What is the source for not launching in 2024? The title of this thread changed from "NET December 2024" to "NET January 2025", but without any explanation.

One week of 2024 left and still no static fire test. So it ain't happening.

Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch within one day of static fire (recently with Crew-9). While this is unlikely for a new rocket, it is clearly possible to static fire and launch it within a few days.

The entry at Cadenaios for a launch on Dec. 31 is still active:
