Innocent question: So the Russians now trust you enough to tell you things you aren't supposed to tell the public?

I just saw the Interfax report that two employees at Energiya who were taking part in the Soyuz TMA-04M testing "have died -- they couldn't stand the strain." A quick yandex search finds earlier mentions of the rumors but no confirmation.

"Acaba's crew, now tentatively scheduled for launch May 15, will use the Soyuz that had been slated for use by Sunita Williams, Yuri Malenchenko and Japanese astronaut Akihiko Hoshide. Williams and her crewmates, originally scheduled for launch May 30, now hope to take off around July 15 aboard a Soyuz originally scheduled for launch Sept. 26.

The crew of that flight -- Oleg Novitskiy, Evgeni Tarelkin and Kevin Ford -- will use the next Soyuz in the sequence and take off around Oct. 15. The year's final flight, with Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, Thomas Marshburn and Yuri Romanenko, will slip from Nov. 26 to around Dec. 5"

Looks like there will be a launch slip for HTV-3 to the second half of July, due to the Soyuz TMA-05M launch delay.

Quote
The date of the launch of a second ship, Soyuz TMA-05M, with the crew of Expedition 32/33 is due to be announced next week after the issue “is aligned with the launch of a third Japanese cargo ship of the HTV family,” Krasnov said.

“One thing is clear now, namely, that the Russian manned ship will start off earlier than the Japanese cargo craft – most probably in mid-July,” he said.

What kind of cargo needs such a long time to access and repack? I thought that the Ariane 5 hasn't rolled out to the launch pad yet?  ???

Thanks for the information!

Any more info on this? Is it because of a packing mistake or some urgent cargo they need to fly? If it is a packing mistake what would have happened if they would have launched as is?

No, but four days ago they dropped the fairing over here. For access to the inside of ATV, the fairing needs to be removed. After that, all protection covers for the docking system and external instruments must be re-installed. Access platforms will have to be erected again. Hatch needs to re-opened etc. After the re-packing is done, all normal final preparations for launch will have to be re-executed. Remember: between the closing of the hatch and the lowering of the fairing was a period of 10 days the first time.
