Sirius Space Services
« on: 03/25/2024 12:47 pm »
There is another French rocket startup, developing a series of small launchers. As far as I understand the company is named Strato Space System and their launch service is called Sirius Space Services (ESA page, company info). Founded in 2000, incubated by ESA in 2001-2003, and giving some beyond aspirational launch dates on their website:

Sirius 1 - two stages, 175 kg to 500 km SSO, launch in 2nd half of 2025
Sirius 13 - same with two side boosters, 700 kg, launch in 2nd half of 2026
Sirius 15 - same with four side boosters, 1100 kg, launch in 2027

On the renderings there are paintings on the boosters that look like grid fins. Are these a poorly rendered hint towards an aspired reusability? But no grid fins painted on the center core. [Edit: they say "reusable" here on their website.]

Running on Kerolox. The engine is called STAR-1, and there will be nine of it on the first stage.  27 on the Sirius-13 and 45 on the Sirius-15. One on the upper stage, I assume. So this is a mini Falcon 9 & Falcon Heavy & Falcon Doubleheavy.

As reported today, this is one of four French launcher ventures which are imminent to receive total 400 M€ of government subsidies. The other three are Latitude, HyPrSpace and MaiaSpace.
