Poor Discovery's not getting any attention, so end of last week snippet of processing update from L2:
Any word on a recent forecast for ET-120 shipping from MAF?

I think the next update will be on the Standup early in the week. Will look out for it.

There is something going on with Node2 .... Looks like they're installing the hatches.

Regarding the SRB segments for STS-120, where are the forward segments?

Were they among the ones returned to Utah following the derailment accident?

Edit: Sorry everyone, the article on the derailment answered my own questions.

Is it known yet if those forward segments are ok?

Thanks,

Kelly

Very likely. But if it's the CBMs your talking about then they've been there for ages now!  :)

And can I find these times somewhere in the www?

Thanks!!

Nope, just a "no earlier than" date (or IOW a processing work to date). They won't know time of day until close to that date because ISS orbital plane crossing times aren't totally predictable (depends on altitude variations because of decay and reboosts).

Here is an approximate launch time for STS-120 based on the current launch date target of October 20th: approx. 4:50 PM GMT (12:50 PM EDT in Florida). This date & time can and probably will change as different circumstances arise.

With the 1 week+ delay in getting Atlantis into the OBF, does that free up some people to assist on Discovery's processing? (Endeavour is ready to go, so likely no assistance needed there).

I'm sure it must be a scheduling challenge, but surely there were people ready to start Atlantis servicing that are not just going to sit home for a week?  I know a handful flew out to California.  Anyone from USA here who could comment?

There aren't teams of people that just work on one orbiter.  For example, there is just one crane team and they go from OPF to OPF and VAB etc performing the work required.  The techs are broken up into "shops" which correspond to parts of the orbiter.  Forward, midbody, aft and flight crew equipment are some of the shops.  The scheduling takes into account, resource levels and priorities.  There are other jobs, maintenance or training that the techs are doing.  When OV-104 arrives, people will be taken off other jobs to OV-104 into the OPF and set up.  From there, it is SOP with tech assignments

Thanks for the info, Jim.  My line of thinking was that, given the high priority on the Discovery mission, resources not working on Atlantis this week could give the Discovery flow a 'get-ahead' boost (depending on the skill sets required for the remaining work).

The tank is still probably the "long pole":

(ET-120 has a unique history.)

If my math is correct, we're now 31 days past the original shipment date for the tank.  Is there any new news?

Lots and lots on L2 if you're on there. Maybe Chris will round some info here.

This doesn't have anything to do with the processing, but does anyone know who's flight engineer on this flight?

We get twice weekly full ET updates (on those going through processing) by way of MAF processing, along with weekly (when there's a PRCB) presentations on each tank and process on L2.

(One slide from L2 copied into here from last week to answer Lee's question, although anyone interested needs to get on L2 for same day and expansive information/presentations).

ET (LMSS/MAF)
ET-120 processing continues with critical ice/frost ramp station. ------------------------------ Shakedown at 70% complete.
