Amazing progress on the repair. Writing an article now, but there may NOT be a launch delay. Target of Oct. 23 is being passed around the Shuttle management, but dependant on level of testing they require on the strut re-test.

Rollover could happen in a few days. Strut being put back together with the wheels to be put back on etc. Not very technical, I know ;) Memos and presentations on L2 and updating it live there. No contingency days left if they rollover on the 24th.

STS-122 may be ok on that orginal December window.

The prior schedule mitigation of bringing VAB High Bay 3 "online" early pushes the bottleneck out to the launch pad (and out to late October / early November or so).

Sounds like there's going to be some traffic in the transfer aisle into next week.

Good article. It has been a hugely impressive fix by the guys in OPF-3. Not to be underestimated on the commitment.

So when can we expect the re-test decision?
In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is !

When the news is available, it will be posted. There are some things you really don't have to ask for ;>

So when can we expect the re-test decision?

Was supposed to be last night, but we believe it might of gone to this morning's Shuttle Standup for management approval. We'll know more when people get in to work at JSC.

Documentation (L2) today shows Discovery rolling over on Sunday, with October 23 launch target protected.

I seem to have forgotten---Is a criticality 1/1 component one whose failure would cause loss of crew and vehicle, with no redundancy?

Don't know about LOV/C for lack of dampening on landing. Can't see how it would be "a bad day" until the strut then gave way, she tipped over on to her wing and slid out of control into something solid. Obviously not desirable not to have the shock impact though.

Bottom line, not sure. I'll leave it for someone like Mark.

If you're referring to the photo, then no. The gear you see in that photo is the Nose Landing Gear, not the right-hand Main Landing Gear. The RHMLG can been seen in the background to the left in the photo with no wheels or tires.

Wow, good eyes: with four or five intense/glum looking people standing behind it; in contrast to the LH landing gear which has a seated audience.

Was referring to the article (at the top, it says 'Tests Under Way on Discovery's Repairs')
