Wayne Hale said something to the effect that they want to roll out the 120 vehicle earlier than usual in order to have more processing time for the Columbus mission. Any sense on how much earlier and how long the vehicle will be exposed to the elements on the pad?

I believe the reason he gave that they want to roll out 120 early is so that they can start stacking 122, as they only have one high bay available until at least November 1.

Yeah, they only have one highbay because they're doing maintenance on the doors of the other bay. I'm just curious how much earlier than usual they plan to roll out 120. ;)

You can figure it out based on information that has been available for a while -- Chris already published when the STS-120 vehicle was going to roll out in this story I'm wearing the link out for in this thread:
http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/content/?cid=5180

And then compare that to how long this last vehicle spent on the pad...or how long the last few vehicles have spent on the pad.

The last I saw, Discovery was scheduled to rollout around September 9th for a launch on October 23. Whether the rollout date has changed since they decided to hold off on mating the ET to the SRBs, I don't know. Does that help?

Lots of things wrong in that article. Have a handful of salt on standby when reading that while we check out where on earth they came to those conclusions.

Seen as the Design TIM doesn't even kick off till today, and the rollout target etc. is still good (along with a lack of concern over impacts) - as per Standup last night on L2....I'm inclined to class the WESH story with an English phrase.

A load of old codswallop.

Currently, rollover of Discovery to the VAB is September 5, which would place rollout around September 12.

Always under review, but they've got about seven days of contingency.

Gerst confirms this is a FALSE story, as we thought.

I talked to the author of the original story and he says it was edited by others -- it is no longer on the website.

That is very poor. False story, edited by others? Retracted without a note on site to all those that read it?

The media need to be held accountable for such outrageously false reporting like this.  Why would they delay Atlantis? No one EVER said any such thing.  Discovery  is next in 2 months!  There is no 3-inch "hole" and the astronauts are not endangered by small foam losses.... WTF?!?!?

Doesn't matter -- they hinted it might be delayed, which is more likely to be turned into a story than "everything's on schedule."

Right now, there's no place to stack the 122 shuttle, which means that the VAB work in the critical path for 120's rollout to the pad is also in the critical path for 122.

This isn't really news, since it's been well known here for around 2 months and maybe longer, but it was hinted at by both Leroy Cain and Wayne Hale during NASA TV appearances in the last week.

Yesterday evening at the post landing press conference, both Bill Gerstenmaier and Mike Leinbach made it clear that the flight hasn't been delayed.  But I still expect to hear more questions about this until STS-120 rolls out to the pad.

Has anyone heard anything today about the current status of SRB/ET mating. I know I should probably be on L2 for this but I haven't signed up for that. FT reports today that they are leaning towards proceeding with the 120 launch as is. ;)

I keep hearing this but don't we have three bays availible for shuttle stacking? What's going on in each of the VAB bays right now?
