Mission: STS-120 - 23rd International Space Station Flight - U.S. Node
2
Vehicle: Discovery (OV-103)
Location: Orbiter Processing Facility Bay 3
Launch Date: Targeted for Oct. 20, 2007
Launch Pad: 39A
Crew: Melroy, Zamka, Parazynski, Wheelock, Wilson, Nespoli and Tani
Inclination/Orbit Altitude: 51.6 degrees/122 nautical miles

In Orbiter Processing Facility bay No. 3, all three of Discovery's
main engines have been installed, as have the heat shields for those
engines. Engine leak and functional tests are complete. Technicians
removed and replaced window No. 7. The right-hand orbital maneuvering
system pod has been delivered to the bay and preparations are under
way for its installation next week.

The STS-120 solid rocket boosters are being stacked in the Vehicle
Assembly Building. The external fuel tank for STS-120 is scheduled to
arrive at KSC via barge from the Michoud Assembly Facility in New
Orleans on Sunday. The tank will be lifted into a checkout cell in
the Vehicle Assembly Building on Monday.

since you are talking about sts-120 one of it's tasks is to move the P6 solar arrays how will it be moved by an EVA or the RMS and another question who made the US solar arrays boeing?or someone else?

AFAIK, SSRMS will ungrapple P6 from Z1 and will hand P6 to the shuttle RMS.  Then SSRMS moves out to the farthest workstation on P5 truss.  The shuttle RMS then hands P6 to SSRMS, and astros on a spacewalk will guide the operators on final installation of P6 on P5.  There are no cameras out there and the SSRMS will be at almost full extention to pull off this task.

This operation is talked about briefly at the bottom of this ariticle...http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/shuttlemissions/sts120/mission_overview.html

Is there a camera view in range of the dock?  If so hope they put it on one of the channels.

Female Space Commanders Available for Interviews

The first female NASA astronauts to lead missions at the same time will be together for satellite interviews from 6 to 8 a.m. CDT on Thursday, Aug. 2. This fall, Peggy Whitson will command the International Space Station's Expedition 16 crew and Pam Melroy will command the space shuttle Discovery's STS-120 mission.

To participate in the interviews, media should contact Tim Hinson at 281- 483-5111 by noon on Aug. 1.

Whitson will lift off in October aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft for her second long-duration space mission. She will return to Earth in April 2008 after six months aboard the station.

Melroy is targeted to launch Oct. 20 on her third spaceflight, a 13-day shuttle mission to install Node 2, a pressurized module that is a connecting port and passageway to science labs and cargo spacecraft on the complex. She served as pilot on two prior shuttle flights.

I hadn't considered that before: a female-commanded shuttle arriving at a female-commanded space station.  American women have come a long way since STS-7!

Large amount of Discovery processing here. http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/content/?cid=5180

I know I go on a bit about LON/CSCS, but I do think it's an important and a positive (not gloom and doom) subject to get across in terms of safety.

I'm glad you elaborate on LON, Chris. I don't think it's covered enough on other sites. I also think those potential missions and their crews should be listed on NASA's public launch manifests.
