Explanation of StarShip Tumbling procedure
« on: 04/25/2023 08:48 pm »
Not quite sure where to post this.

In the recent launch of Starship, shortly after liftoff, the spaceship could be seen tumbling.   What was the purpose of that?  Usually when the first stage is jettisoned, it just releases.  Seems weird to tumble the stack like that.

Sometimes I just flat out don't get it.

Nobody knows for sure no matter what they say, but my take is the second stage didn't separate from the booster for the flip maneuver. Also, the engines didn't shut down for the maneuver. The hydraulics may have failed, rendering the engine gimbals and separation mechanism inoperable.
