They're there for the questions part, naturally. Just in case.

"Birdsong", eh? Neat!

Beautiful coverage gentlemen, I couldn't watch it live and, as always, this site gave me front row seats :) Thanks!

Congratulations for NASA people, these last missions are being beautiful, and so successful! By the way, firehawk, I'm getting L2 as Christmas present, I've been begging to my family for it for a lot of time, and although I haven't been in, I'm sure it's a bargain, considering the loads of info in there!

Happy Christmas to everyone!

This Swedish journalist is obviously not used to cover NASA. Incredible.

Yeah they usually don't care at all unless there's a disaster. :(
Some years ago we had one or two aviation/space oriented journalists on the national tv but they are retired now so they send numbnuts instead :(

They will also forget about the flight immediately after Christer gets back to Sweden.
Hoping for a future of NASA manned spaceflight

Griffin is very professional.  He's there to get the job done and he doesn't care whether he makes the media happy or not because he understands that NASA isn't about pleasing people.  It's about exploration.  He believes in the direction NASA is headed and will not be deterred by public opinion in the form of various mainstream news media who wish to make the programs look bad.  I can't help but have a huge amount of respect for him.  I can't see anyone else in his position at this point.

I'm sure any astronaut would sign up for the pace of this mission, but I think they deserve a night off.

I wonder really - despite what he said previously - if he couldn't stay beyond the end of this Administration. Really, it has been so difficult to find an administrator that good, why change ?

Congratulations NASA and Discovery crew!! :) 14 more Shuttle flights to go. It almost looks routine but that is the worst word for anyone to have in their minds. We must stay vigilant. ;)

IFR foam reduction and titanium mod on the flight before HST. Was on L2 via PRCB presentation a while ago.

Re Nathan Moeller:
I agree totally. He seems to be a hands on type of leader who is at the same time allowing the people in the organisation to do their job without interference. He is not interested in climbing the political ladder so he can't be bought by congress politicians. That also makes him strong when facing the media.

Wonder if Griffen could be become secretary of state.  We could use a no-nonsense guy like him there....

On a serious note - my first shuttle flight with you here, and it's been great.
Thank you all for the insights.  45 years of watching NASA and you guys taught me a lot....

Anyway, didn't somebody mention Norm Knight rocking the casbah today?

Mike's attitude reminds me of something one of my director's once did. Applicants had to go through a 3-person interview process to see how they fit teamwise. My first one, I go into the director's office w/ the rest of interviewers. They stick their arms out w/ thumbs parallel (perpendicular?) to the floor. wtf? Director comes up, sticks his arm out too & starts counting to three. yadda yadda. It was like saying, I trust you guys, whaddya think? We didn't have to defend or explain our reasons.

That's Mike.

Done some planning from L2 presentations we put on L2 today just before Discovery came home. We've got six articles to come before the end of the year. So I'd reccomend anyone leaving till the new year to go back through the news site upon your return.
