firehawk - 22/12/2006  6:24 PM  sorry i missed all this. Does anyone have a link to the entire landing event? It's incredible this thread - how on earth do you get the cam pics, pdf files, weather reports etc... so quickly? wow!

Complete video coverage from deorbit to crew egress is available on L2 right now. Over 1GB of HQ video materials of the landing event alone.

Light rain will penetrate just as well as a heavy shower; I hope someone asks them about that in the press conference!  Merry Christmas to everyone; I hope your New Year will be as successful as the last shuttle mission.  Also thanks for the amazing web site; I like seeing the pictures on here before I see them on NASA broadband!  (I seem to get about a 2 minute delay).

Water doesn't matter at this point.  The orbiter will be in the OPF long enough to dry out

We got her back and what a great mission. Well done to everyone on here, especially Chris and the writers, for such superb coverage.

If they landed at Edwards or White Sands, the orbiter would be out "in the elements" for at least a week.  They've survived worse than a few heavy showers.

Great comments from Commander Polansky.

To those that call the orbiter's "its" - listen to the commander :)

What did he say?

What did he say?

He referred to Discovery as "she" not "it."

Now I'm curious as to why there is a caution of rain for half an hour after landing within the 30 mile circle?  Is it visibility or control of the shuttle?

Maybe something to do with the ESA laboratories going to the ISS?

We definitely have a lot to look forward to in 2007.  The station is going to look quite different this time next year.  Gerst reviewing some of the upcoming flights and preparations.
