20 minutes away from the deorbit burn if they go for Edwards.

Woo hoo! It's KSC now... well, or wait for Rev. 3 and NOR if KSC isn't forecast green at deorbit burn time.

Are these trucks always there at Edwards, or were they brought in from KSC?

The deorbit burn time for KSC is around 4:26 PM EST, landing at 5:32 PM EST, if this opp. is selected, does anyone know if this would be a dusk or night landing?

They're always there since EDW is the prime back-up site.

The post-landing trucks are always at Edwards in case the shuttle has to land there due to weather concerns at KSC.

Just a note on images. Let's keep it to one image per post to help loading times while the site's been hammered :)

I'm about 45 miles south of KSC... and sunset is around 5:30 or so... so its dusk,  But... low cloud layer here now and showers on radar means  I doubt they'll even consider KSC at this point.

I have a question. Why can't they use the dry lake bed at Edwards like they used to in the earlier days of the shuttle program and land straight into the wind. I know that if they land at White Sands they'll be landing on a surface other than concrete, so why are they committed to using 04/22.

Well, the strategy outlined yesterday was this:
Rev 202: KSC
Rev 203: KSC, EDW
Rev 204: EDW, NOR
And if needed, Rev 205: EDW, NOR

Apologies for quoting something from pages back, but why couldnt there be a deorbit to NOR on Rev 203?

Edit: also, any chance of PPOV video at NOR?

All we need is a "Forecast Go" call for the next 1 hour and a half.  Its all up to the weather officer to lay down a bet to Flight Director Norm Knight....
