Elon Musk’s aerospace business SpaceX has ordered one of the larger advertising packages available from Twitter, the social media business he just acquired in a $44 billion deal and where he is now serving as CEO.

The campaign will promote the SpaceX-owned and -operated satellite internet service called Starlink on Twitter in Spain and Australia, according to internal records from the social media business viewed by CNBC.

"Not a great optic"?  Seems like advertising a service for internet access on the internet is a pretty straightforward way to target potential users.   Optics look fine to me.

What’s the issue? People really are grasping at straws to criticize Elon.

Besides, it’s like $250k worth of advertising. The way the media reports it makes it sound like he just bailed out the company (that had $5B annual revenue last year😂).

It's not a great optic as they're obviously desperate for any ad revenue now other advertisers are fleeing the burning heap of bovine faeces that Twitter is at the moment. Almost like the incredibly childish and naive notion of all the freedom of speech without taking any of the responsibilities is a bad idea.....

(EDIT: also, please correct the grammar in the thread title....)

What's the difference between SpaceX buying Twitter ads for Starlink and SpaceX buying Tesla motors and batteries for Starship?

Did same for FB/Insta/Google.

Yep, this is what media conveniently forget to mention, Starlink has been doing advertisement all over the place, see https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=49937.msg2404631#msg2404631

Interesting experiment in targeted markets. Wonder if they bought targeted adds in markets that they have more capacity than current subscribers in an attempt to boost utilization ($$$) in those markets.

Didn't Starlink just open service in Western Australia via ISL...

Western Australian here. Starlink has indeed expanded its offering to the vast, remote northern parts of the state. They are obviously trying to market the service aggressively, as the network has large surplus capacity in these areas.
