No point putting a timeline from the flight plan in here.

It's time for EVA machine Beamer and Christer to go deal with an array!

On the Joel Montalbano report today: John Ira asked Joel "What's the most important item the Shuttle will be bringing down?"
Joel's answer "Thomas Reiter". LOL :)
Thomas will come down on the middeck on his back because of this long duration flight.

They will also bring down some Russian items: the failed Elektron and a Kurs antenna.

Waking up with the Beach Boy's Good Vibrations.  Excellent choice!

And as for the EVA today, it is scheduled for 19:12 (GMT)... or so says the NASA TV schedule.

If all goes well (and quickly), it's a little surprising they haven't talked about floating over to the Progress and doing a quick "snip" of the stuck antenna there.

Can't quote me on this, but I seem to recall that being discussed a while back... before Discovery even flew.  Maybe with regards to the shuttle EVA's, or maybe the American stage EVA's later on, not sure.  But regardless, I think it was said that there was a desire to have Tyurin do the actual cutting.

I believe THAT EVA is scheduled for the end of February and will be conducted from Pirs.

Can somebody review again the EMU management issues that had pre-determined that Christer and not Suni would make this 4th EVA? I want to make clear to my clients that Suni's not going outside today had nothing to do with any performance issues on Saturday -- which, there weren't any.

I think they would have had to reconfigure the EMU for Christer anyway for the return home because of any emergency spacewalks that may have been required after undocking.

That sound right, or am I totally off the mark?

A good call.

The two pressers since the decision to go to EVA 4 had the question asked in the style of "Will it be Christer and Beamer" - which only gained confirmation, with added praise for "EVA machine" Beamer. No references to the actual decision on why Suni isn't on EVA 4, from what I've seen so far (still checking - and asking sources).

STS-116 Execute Package for FD 10 is available on: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/shuttlemissions/sts116/news/execute_packages.html

EDIT: It looks like we've got a European pilot: PLT Oberpfaffenhofen :)

They had reconfigured 3015 for Christer and the ride home, but Suni has 3018  ready and configured for her in case of
a contingency stage EVA.  Maybe the thinking is not to use up time-to-next-maintenance hours on 3018,
since they are bringing 3015 home they might as well get max use out of it. Or maybe there's some subtle aspect
of the plan that uses something that Christer's better trained for - EVA-3 was kind of a training spacewalk for Suni
'just in case', and I guess Christer may have had more overall EVA training? Or maybe the Swedish government
bribed NASA to give Christer another go :-).
For a "review of the EMU management issues", you may want to review the FD9 execute package which discusses
the EVA-4 EMU prep, although I'm not sure it helps that much.

From a proportional stand point you could opt for Suni and Christer...
