"We have hardware today in work around the world through Artemis V. This isn't just a one-flight-and-we're-done."

Good to remind audiences :) On to EM-2!

Shamelessly using this post to also thank folks for the impeccable live commentary upthread.

This nice plot on the livestream is consistent with the provided numbers for the skip reentry (down to 61 km, back up to 90 km)

Unfortunately the Horizons trajectory ends at entry interface so I don't have detailed numbers on the entry phase:

All objectives of all priorities were completed. "This is what mission success looks like", as Sarafin noted.

"This was a deliberate stress test of our deep-space human transportation system".

Hu confirming splashdown was "within 2.1 nautical miles of the target", while the requirement was almost 3x that.

Accomplished 122 original flight test objectives + 20 bonus.

Artemis-1 Day: 26 - Earth Return/ Splashdown.

In less than 100 minutes, NASA’s Orion Spacecraft #002 will make a swashbuckling re-entry into earth's atmosphere and splashdown in Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Baja California.

Artemis II still TBD but Free pointing out the interval between EM-1 and -2 will be in the 2-year-ish order of magnitude - though noting they are trying to move things along quicker. They want to have Artemis I successfully completed and reviewed before committing to a date for the crewed mission (plus there's the avionics reuse constraint we know about, whose refurbishment clock has just finally started ticking down).

Expecting to name the crew of Artemis II in a few months' time (early 2023).

Sarafin: not tracking any issues that took place from service module jettison to splashdown. Will still have to review data collected during the blackouts, though.

Hu and Sarafin say that it’s still early in the data analysis from reentry, but overall “very happy” with the performance of the thermal protection system on Orion. Will need to look at data collected during blackout, which coincided with peak heating.

Judging from the wake as seen from the well deck camera, USS Portland is making good speed towards the capsule.

EDIT: ... and a view from one of the small boats.

Tally ho! Capsule visible in these apparently hand-held views from the USS Portland flight deck.

EDIT ... to add zoomed view.

Multiple lines now attaching Orion to USS Portland, all visibly under some tension.
