In a few days, the STORK-7 satellite from a Wrocław-based company @satrev_space will fly into the cargo hold of the Transporter-9 mission. What distinguishes it from its predecessors is the fact that 28 perovskite cells from the company @SauleTech are installed on it.

The FAA ATCSCC Current Operations Plan Advisory has it listed for November 9. (Bearing in mind as always that this is just advisory information, not official like an FAA TFR/NOTAM.)

Heron Mk.II cubesat from the Aerospace Team of the University of Toronto onboard:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cy9WVMXP4wc/
Quote
The countdown continues! We’re just over a week away from the launch of HERON Mk. II from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

Here are five fun facts you probably didn’t know about HERON Mk. II:

1. HERON Mk. II is about 10 x 10 x 34 cm in size, which is about the size of a typical loaf of bread.

2. HERON Mk. II weighs 3.3 kg.

3. While in operation, HERON Mk. II will use permanent magnets to detumble and hysteresis material to align itself along the local direction of Earth’s magnetic field. Detumbling is the process of stabilizing the spacecraft’s orientation once it’s deployed from the rocket. These technologies form HERON Mk. II’s passive attitude control system.

4. Once in orbit, HERON Mk. II will be moving at a speed of about 7.7 km/s. At this speed, HERON Mk. II will make one trip around the Earth every 94 minutes.

5. At over 500 km in altitude, HERON Mk. II will be the highest orbiting undergraduate student-built Canadian satellite. At this altitude, HERON Mk. II will travel more than 43,000 km in each orbit.

HERON Mk. II is a 3U CubeSat scheduled to launch no earlier than November 2023 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. This historic mission will be the first student-funded satellite mission in Canada, and the first in a series of increasingly complex missions to push the envelope of what undergraduate satellite programs are capable of. HERON Mk. II’s primary mission objective is to demonstrate UTAT’s radio communications capabilities, while secondary objectives include validating the structural, thermal, power, and computing system designs.

To celebrate this achievement, we’ll be hosting a launch watch party on campus. Stay tuned for details!
