Worth mentioning again that the 'our cause' section of the Polaris Dawn website again lists St Jude as the primary benefactor of the project. To my knowledge, a new contest hasn't been announced, but I'll be keeping my eye out for one. I wonder if Jared and Elon may end up making large donations again. I suspect they both might, though I'm hesitant to assign that expectation mentally. Will be super interested to see how this evolves over the next year or two.

Keep in mind that an EVA using a modified IVA suit is little more than a stunt with limited value other than bragging rights.

I guess that depends whether the SpaceX EVA moon/mars suit is a standalone development or if it is to be an evolution of the existing IVA suit. If it’s the latter then whatever they are flying on this mission might be an important stepping stone defining the DNA of the final EVA suit…🤔

In any case this will be the first functional privately developed EVA suit ever flown, so that’s something to brag about alright.

Overall I’m super stoked about this announcement, it’s like all the aspirations for Dragon are about to be realised, like a private Gemini program. And the first crewed Starship flight?? It’s like having the cake and eating it!

Such a nice break from being stuck at home and feeling shit being sick with Covid for the last two weeks 😎

You mean for the second mission, I am guessing (since the crew of the first mission has already been selected).

Two of the Crew members where/are SpaceX employees.  Is SpaceX allowing the two employees to temporarily take a sabbatical to do the mission and then come back to SpaceX after it is over?  Would be smart if they did allow this type of flexibility because it would only bring more experience to SpaceX for potential future missions, IE Crewed Mars missions.

Really looking forward to the mission and hopefully another Netflix series!!!!

Look at the Crew Image - those two are wearing distinct patches to Isaacman and the other Crewmember - they have a winged emblem on the patch, whereas the two SpaceX employees actually have the SpaceX Logo - I interpret this as those are flying as Employees of SpaceX, not private citizens.
So Jared is wearing the Inspiration 4 wings. Scott is wearing USAF Command Pilot Wings.

Wow. I’m super happy to hear about all the outreach for experiments and goals to buy down risk for Moon/Mars missions.

Nothing remotely resembling a tourist flight.

Keep in mind that and EVA using a modified IVA suit is little more than a stunt with limited value other than dragging rights.

Apollo's suit was capable of IVA, EVA, and lunar surface.  CXP Orion was originally supposed to do the same. There are advantages to having separate EVA and IVA when there is enough volume for both(Shuttle, ISS) but doing an EVA with a suit that can also perform the role of IVA can be useful.

It'll be fun to see a "skinny" suit on an EVA again, after the Shuttle-era Humpty-Dumpty-sized EVA suits. It will rekindle old Gemini memories...

Not sure. I read that Cameron Bess (son of Lane Bess) was somewhere in his mid-20s when he launched on NS-19 last December. Didn't list exact age, though.

The youngest person to orbit is Gherman Titov, who was still (only just) 25.

I thought hektor was mentioning the youngest American in space whether it'd be orbital or suborbital.

My apologies. I tend to disregard suborbital astronauts. I should have been more explicit. I should have said record for youngest American in orbit.

Isn't this mission essentially replacing the cancelled Space Adventures' free-flyer mission, which was originally planned for Mid 2022 and aimed to "break the world altitude record for private citizen spaceflight and see planet Earth the way no one has since the Gemini program".

So what are the key known details on the SpaceX EVA suit, and why exactly do some consider it to be inadequate for an EVA mission?

Would SpaceX really risk anyone's lives by using an inadequate suit, just to save on cost or just to look stylish?
