ISS-67 crew prepares for an expedition into orbit
01/14/2022 14:15
In March 2022, the crew of the ISS-67 expedition will go on a long-term space expedition. Oleg Artemiev was appointed as Soyuz MS-21 crew commander, Denis Matveev and Sergei Korsakov were appointed as flight engineers. All three are cosmonauts of Roskosmos, now they are intensively preparing for the flight.
“There is not much time left before the start. We are constantly training, preparing for tests and exams. We continue to carry out the voluminous work related to the preparation for extravehicular activities. During our expedition, six to seven space walks are expected, ”said Oleg Artemyev , ISS-67 crew commander .
The crew is practicing actions in open space under water during tests of the CTC hydro laboratory. In addition, the cosmonauts train on the Vykhod-2 simulator, which allows them to prepare for work on the ISS surface. Another simulator helps you to feel yourself outside the Earth using virtual reality glasses.
Each spacewalk is associated with specific missions. It lasts an average of six hours - a full-time work day with short rest breaks. The entire algorithm of actions is repeatedly practiced on Earth, but for various reasons the flight program may change.
“We are preparing for the mission of the main flight program and for any changes that may occur. If EVA is canceled, then we will continue to engage in current activities: scientific experiments, repair work on the ISS. We now have a very tight flight preparation schedule. Now, not only on weekdays, but also on Saturdays, they began to train, ”said Oleg Artemyev .
The ISS-67 crew commander is preparing for his third space mission. Flight engineers Denis Matveev and Sergei Korsakov will go to the ISS for the first time, but they have years of serious preparation behind them. Oleg Artemiev is confident that his colleagues will successfully cope with all the tasks.
The crew of the Soyuz MS-21 spacecraft consists entirely of professional Russian cosmonauts, who will have a six-month expedition to the ISS. This did not happen for a very long time, usually among the crew members on the ship there was at least one representative of another country. However, already on the ISS, he joined the astronauts, and the cosmonauts on the Russian segment of the station worked together. The ISS-67 crew was lucky. Due to the fact that it consists of three people, it will be easier to cope with the assigned tasks. According to Oleg Artemiev, a significant part of the activities of the 67th expedition to the ISS will be associated with the further integration of the "Science" module and with other tasks stipulated by the flight program.

The CPC continues preparations for the 67th expedition to the ISS
01/21/2022 09:30
Two crews are traditionally preparing for the next expedition to the International Space Station: the main and backup. Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Artemiev, Denis Matveev and Sergei Korsakov became understudies of their colleagues in the detachment Sergei Prokopiev, Dmitry Petelin and Anna Kikina.
It is expected that the prime crew of ISS-67 will go into orbit in March 2022, and the backup crew in September 2022. In the event that Roscosmos and NASA sign an agreement on "cross" flights to the ISS, there will be changes in the composition of the ISS-68 crew. Instead of Anna Kikina on the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft, NASA astronaut Francisco Rubio will go on a space expedition, and the only female cosmonaut in the Roscosmos detachment will be part of the main crew of the Crew Dragon spacecraft (USCV-5 flight), which is expected to be launched in August 2022 .
Anna Kikina is currently training as part of the ISS-67 backup crew. Just like Dmitry Petelin, she does not yet have space flight experience. Crew commander Sergei Prokopiev has already worked on the ISS. His space expedition took place in 2018 and lasted almost 197 days, during which there were two spacewalks.
Now the backup crew of ISS-67, like the main one, is preparing for flight on the simulators of the Soyuz MS spacecraft and the Russian segment of the International Space Station, working out typical, abnormal and emergency situations. In addition, in terms of their training - training related to spacewalks, the study of scientific experiments and much more.
For example, this week Sergey Prokopiev and Dmitry Petelin tasted products for additional food sets on board the ISS. The six containers of food and drink that each astronaut can take with him on a six-month expedition are designed to diversify the typical menu. Before completing the kits, find out the individual preferences of the crew members.
The list of food products contains 160–180 items. In order to evaluate each of them, take a few days at lunchtime. In general, the crew training schedule is very tight. Every astronaut has many important tasks to complete.

The ISS-67 crew spent a working day on the ISS Russian Segment simulator
03.02.202210:59
Preparations are underway for the next expedition to the International Space Station. In addition to passing tests and exams, cosmonauts must spend the so-called typical flight day on the Russian segment of the ISS and do the work that their colleagues in orbit usually do during the day. In addition, participants in the training must show their readiness for possible contingencies and emergencies.
The prime crew of ISS-67 consisting of Oleg Artemiev, Denis Matveev and Sergey Korsakov was the first to start fulfilling the assigned tasks. Only Oleg Artemiev, who has made two expeditions to the ISS, has experience in space flights. Nevertheless, the crew members have a lot in common.
They have been in the cosmonaut corps for a long time, although they are representatives of different sets, and all three are graduates of the Moscow State Technical University. Bauman. In this regard, the launch of the Soyuz MS-21 spacecraft, on which the ISS-67 crew is to fly on March 18, 2022, is already called the "Bauman Launch".
During a typical flight day, the cosmonauts solved the tasks assigned to them: from simple ones, like recording a video message, to complex ones, related to various aspects of their professional activities. A number of emergency situations were worked out, simulated by the CPC instructors for the crew. The cosmonauts also coped with the accident - they put out the fire and restored the atmosphere on board the station. In such trainings, only calculated situations are reproduced, the exit algorithm from which is contained in the on-board documentation.

The ISS-67 crew took part in research on the Vykhod-2 simulator
07.02.202213:00
Experimental studies on the acquisition of background data on the performance of complex operator activities on the Vykhod-2 simulator with the participation of the main crew of the ISS-67 expedition took place during the past week. Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Artemiev, Denis Matveev and Sergei Korsakov are preparing to make a six-month expedition to the ISS. The launch of the Soyuz MS-21 spacecraft with their crew on board is scheduled for March 18, 2022.
Now there is a period of pre-flight studies, including on the Vykhod-2 simulator with an active force-compensating weight loss system. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the possibility for an astronaut to control spacesuit systems and other equipment in the process of locking and extravehicular activity, to work out individual typical operations and to obtain experimental data on the quality of these operations.
Typical operations, in particular, include: operations in the airlock compartment (inflating the suit, switching to autonomous power, opening the exit hatch), moving, moving up the stairs (ascending and descending), installing an antenna, docking electrical connectors, controlling a virtual vehicle model ( rover) and manipulator.
For each session of experimental research, the data obtained are summarized and presented as a section of the report on the research work "Constellation-LM-21/22", which is aimed at studying human capabilities during deep space flights and work on the surfaces of the Moon and Mars.

Backup crew of ISS-67 showed readiness for work in orbit
08.02.202210:34
Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergei Prokopiev, Dmitry Petelin and Anna Kikina spent a typical flight day on the simulator of the Russian segment of the International Space Station. This is the name of the training, during which a standard working day in orbit is reproduced.
Of course, it cannot be called standard in the full sense, given a number of contingencies and one emergency situation, which are simulated for the crew by the instructors of the Yu. A. Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. During the day, training participants may experience communication failures, life support system failures, and other problems. In general, they perform typical operations. Teamwork allows the crew to strengthen interaction, refresh knowledge about the design of the modules, and develop the necessary skills.
It would seem that the procedure for recording a video greeting from the ISS does not require special preparation. However, if you pay attention to how often crews have to do this during space expeditions, such a stage of training will not seem superfluous. The better they master various processes on Earth, the faster they will cope with similar tasks in space.
At the end of the working day, the understudies worked out actions to eliminate the emergency situation introduced by the instructors - depressurization on the Russian segment of the International Space Station.
The main and backup crews of ISS-67 have exams ahead of them, after which they must go to Baikonur and continue preparing for the flight. The launch of the Soyuz MS-21 transport manned spacecraft is scheduled for March 18, 2022.

Crews of ISS-67 started examination training
02/09/202213:49
On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, the ISS-67 backup crew commander Sergey Prokopiev and his flight engineer Dmitry Petelin took an exam on the Teleoperator simulator.
This is a specialized simulator designed to prepare crews for the implementation of manual telecontrol (from the International Space Station) for rendezvous and docking of unmanned objects: Progress MS cargo spacecraft, retrofit modules and other spacecraft.
Regular docking occurs automatically. If for some reason this is not possible, the cosmonauts take over the remote control of the unmanned spacecraft and carry out its docking with the station in the teleoperator control mode.
At the exam, you need to show your skills in docking the Progress MS spacecraft to the nodes of various modules of the ISS Russian Segment and work out possible emergency situations. Cosmonauts perform the tasks specified in the exam tickets. Sergey Prokopiev and Dmitry Petelin coped with them perfectly well.
The prime crew of ISS-67 will have to pass similar tests next week, and this week both crews must pass the manual rendezvous test on the Don-Soyuz simulator.
Recall that the cosmonauts are preparing for the 67th long-term expedition to the ISS. The launch of the Soyuz MS-21 spacecraft is scheduled for March 18, 2022.

The crews of the ISS-67 successfully coped with an emergency situation during the "docking"
02/11/202216:29
Examination training in manual rendezvous was held by cosmonauts of the main and backup crews of ISS-67. Doubles were the first to start testing on the Don-Soyuz simulator. The crew commander, Roskosmos cosmonaut Sergei Prokopyev, worked in the descent vehicle, and flight engineer Dmitry Petelin worked in the amenity compartment.
The task of the commander is to control the automatic rendezvous process and, in the event of an emergency (failure of the on-board computer system or failure of the Kurs-NA system, when there are no distance and speed measurements), switch to manual control.
Sergei Prokopiev performed a manual rendezvous with the International Space Station and hovered in front of the station's docking port with the specified parameters, using data from the flight engineer on the range and speed of the spacecraft. During the examination training, the crew worked out rendezvous with all the docking stations available on the Russian Segment of the ISS.
Following the doubles, the ISS-67 prime crew commander Oleg Artemyev and flight engineer Denis Matveev passed a similar exam. Both crews were rated "excellent" by the commission, noting the high level of knowledge and skills, as well as the coordination of actions between the cosmonauts and the instructor teams.

The crews of the ISS-67 coped with emergency situations during the "docking"
02/15/2022 16:57
Crews of the ISS-67 expedition continue preparations for the upcoming space flight. The current week began with an exam on berthing and docking of the Soyuz MS manned spacecraft. The operations were performed manually on a specialized simulator "Don-Soyuz".
ISS-67 backup crew commander Sergey Prokopiev and flight engineer Dmitry Petelin were the first to pass the tests. Then Oleg Artemiev, ISS-67 prime crew commander and Denis Matveev, flight engineer, passed a similar exam.
During the examination training, the cosmonauts performed four modes each, the first of which was re-docking from one docking port of the Russian segment of the ISS to another. This is a regular mode, which is always implemented manually.
During berthing, the occurrence of emergency situations is not ruled out, which, for example, can happen at the moment when the cosmonauts have completed a flight around the station, are opposite the docking port and are already starting to berth. At the exam, it is necessary to recognize an emergency situation and demonstrate to the commission an algorithm of actions to get out of it. One of the mooring modes is performed in the shade. The crews of the ISS-67 successfully coped with the assigned tasks and received an "excellent" rating from the examiners.
On Wednesday, February 16, 2022, Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Artemiev and Denis Matveev will demonstrate the skills of manual control of the docking of the Progress MS cargo spacecraft with the station using the Teleoperator simulator. Next, both crews must pass an exam in the manual controlled descent of the Soyuz spacecraft, and from February 22, they will begin complex examination training. The final stage of preparation for the flight will take place at Baikonur.
The launch of the Soyuz MS-21 manned spacecraft is scheduled for March 18, 2022.
