Preflight preparation of the Soyuz MS-21 spacecraft began at Baikonur

01/14/2022 14:50

At the technical complex of site No. 254 of the Baikonur cosmodrome, work has been completed on the reactivation and preparation of the Soyuz MS-21 manned spacecraft for the final stage of the ground test program. Today, January 14, 2021, the Soyuz MS-21 manned spacecraft, which had been in storage since December 7, 2021, was deactivated in the assembly and test building.

After the spacecraft was installed in the slipway, the specialists of the S.P. Korolev (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) carried out an external examination of the product and control of the initial state of the on-board systems, connected ground test equipment, completed the assembly of the test circuit and check connections of the service equipment. The work plan for the near future provides for comprehensive electrical tests and testing of the ship's onboard automation.

The launch of the Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket with the Soyuz MS-21 manned spacecraft under the program for the delivery of the 67th main expedition to the International Space Station is scheduled for March 2022.

Roskosmos will hold the Bauman launch with the Korolev manned spacecraft in March

01/25/202215:41

On March 18, 2022, it is planned to launch the Soyuz MS-21 manned spacecraft to the International Space Station from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. For the first time since the existence of this station, three Russian professional cosmonauts, Oleg Artemiev, Denis Matveev and Sergei Korsakov, have entered the Soyuz crew. All of them are graduates of the Moscow State Technical University named after N.E. Bauman.

In this regard, the State Corporation "Roscosmos" decided to name the upcoming launch "Bauman start".

The Soyuz MS-21 spacecraft itself, on which the cosmonauts will depart, will receive its own name - Korolev - in honor of the chief designer of rocket and space technology, Sergei Korolev, a graduate of the Moscow State Technical University, under whose leadership the Special Design Bureau No. 1 (now - Rocket - space corporation "Energia") was the beginning of the family of manned spacecraft "Soyuz".

In OKB-1, Korolev and other MSTU graduates also developed the R-7 intercontinental ballistic missile, on the basis of which the Soyuz family space launch vehicles were subsequently created.

In honor of the flight of the Baumans, the third stage of the Soyuz-2.1a rocket, which will send the crew of the Soyuz MS-21 into space, will be decorated with the coat of arms of the university.

The launch is scheduled for 18:55 Moscow time on March 18. The flight of the manned spacecraft "Korolev" will take place according to the "ultra-fast" two-turn rendezvous scheme. The docking is planned to the new node module "Prichal" of the Russian segment of the ISS, and the flight duration will be 195 days. Crew commander Oleg Artemiev will go on his third space mission. Flight engineers Denis Matveev and Sergei Korsakov will go to the ISS for the first time, but they have years of serious training behind them.
