Baikonur is ready for its final launch in 2021

12/27/2021 11:15

At the Baikonur cosmodrome, a meeting of the commission was held, at which the issues of the readiness of the space rocket as part of the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with the Fregat upper stage and 36 OneWeb vehicles in the framework of mission No. 37 were considered. The commissions decided to refuel the launch vehicle and launch it at 16:10:37 Moscow time on December 27, 2021.

Specialists of the State Corporation Roscosmos are starting operations to fill the rocket with propellant components (kerosene, liquid oxygen and nitrogen, highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide, naphthyl). The end of refueling operations is scheduled at 15:00 Moscow time, after which the refueling hoses will be undocked and the refueling units will be evacuated from the "zero" mark.

You can watch the live broadcast of prelaunch operations, launch and flight of the launch vehicle on the official pages of the State Corporation Roscosmos in social networks and in the section "Live broadcasts" from 15:00 Moscow time on December 27, 2021. We have prepared many surprises for the audience: we are not waiting for the New Year to surprise you! You will find new columns with space experts, answers to the questions that you most often asked in the comments on social networks, and a selection of the best events where you can relax and learn a little more about space.

And that's not all! Together with CosmoMerch, we have prepared a New Year's gift for you! Tune in to the OneWeb launch broadcast for the chance to win a space tee. At the beginning of the broadcast, the presenters will ask a question that must be answered in the comments until the end of the broadcast. The name of the author, whose correct answer was the first, will be announced at the end of the broadcast.

The 14th launch for the Baikonur cosmodrome took place

12/27/2021 16:20

Today, December 27, 2021, at 16: 10: 37.088 Moscow time, the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with the Fregat upper stage and 36 OneWeb spacecraft were launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome as part of mission 37. For 2021 this launch was the 24th launch of Russian space rockets and the 14th from Baikonur.

According to telemetry information, the lift contact, the rocket flight, the separation of the stages and the orbital block were fully completed in the normal mode. Then the upper stage "Fregat" continued to launch 36 vehicles into the target circular orbit. Within 3.5 hours, OneWeb satellites, in accordance with the flight sequence, will alternately separate from the Russian "accelerator" developed by the S.A. Lavochkin (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation).

The engines of the launch vehicle also worked in the normal mode, including the engines of the RD-107/108 family of the first and second stages, developed at the Scientific and Production Association "Energomash" named after Academician V.P. Glushko (part of Roskosmos), and the third stage RD-0124 engine, created at the Voronezh rocket propulsion center (part of the integrated rocket propulsion structure, headed by NPO Energomash Roskosmos).

With this launch, the OneWeb low-orbit constellation will increase by another 36 satellites and reach 394. This launch was the twelfth one within the OneWeb program, the third from Baikonur in 2021 and the fifth from this cosmodrome as a whole. The work is being carried out under a contract between Glavkosmos (part of Roskosmos) and Arianespace and Starsem.

The Soyuz-2 launch vehicle was developed on the basis of the Soyuz-U serial rocket. The lead developer is the Progress Rocket and Space Center (part of Roskosmos). The missiles of the Soyuz-2 family are equipped with improved propulsion systems and modern control and measurement systems, which increase their technical and operational characteristics.

Structurally "Soyuz-2", like all missiles of the "Soyuz" family, is made according to the scheme of longitudinal-transverse division of rocket stages. In combination with the Fregat upper stage, it is designed for launching spacecraft into low-earth orbits of various heights and inclinations, including geo-transfer and geostationary orbits, as well as departure trajectories.
