A new movie brings to life the legacy of a physicist who has played an influential—but largely unheralded—role in shaping the vision of space settlement.

The documentary The High Frontier: The Untold Story of Gerard K. O'Neill takes its name from the 1977 book The High Frontier: Human Colonies in Space authored by Princeton University physicist Gerard K. O'Neill. The movie will be released on April 17, and it's an excellent film for those seeking to better understand the future humans could have in outer space.

But, very disappointed the film producers did not try to attempt to contact myself since I co founded the L-5 Society by establishing the L-5 Society West European Branch back in 1974/5 and helped " Gerry" publicise not just throughout Europe but " down under" his book " The High Frontier". The L-5 WE garnered a lot of supporters for space colonisation concepts with members in many West European countries and even in Australia, Sweden and Ukraine !

The ASWA also awarded me a award for my Lagrange Space Colony article/s.

My promotion of space colonisation was featured on most of the UK's national daily newspapers including some headline news coverage, appeared on several regional and national UK TV news programmes and several nationwide and regional radio programmes during 1975-1977 period. Also, reached several European magazines and tv/radio channels eg Paris Match and RIA tv. I remember one particular week racing around UK - from London through Birmingham and Manchester upto Glasgow doing radio/tv interviews . Also,many landline telephone calls ( no internet, home PCs ,mobile phones ) !

I also organised the L-5 WE Branch newsletter which ran for many, many years until L-5 Society merged with von Braun's USA society and is now the National Space Society ( NSS) .

My Space Colony article appeared in the British Interplanetary Society journal JBIS which introduced a lot of folk to Gerry's ideas in 1976.

I also organised the first European Space Settlement conference held in London in 1977 and several top space engineers and scientists attended including NASA's John Disher.

I myself continued to promote space colonisation throughout the late 1970s to late 1990s by space talks/lectures across UK at hundreds of locations
 like Universities of Cambridge , London, Edinburgh and dozens of diverse groups like Women's Institute, Rotary Clubs, astronomy clubs,schools, farmers unions, and even angling clubs!

Only when home PCs and video tapes came about did these visits stop as very very few groups could afford visiting lecturers by then as their memberships dwindled.

Although in my seventies now, I still publicise space settlements whenever opportunity arises - especially on radio interviews that may ask my views ( eg during Mars Ingenuity launch recently on regional BBC radio).

I still have a lot of the material I was using back in those heady days including paoerwork,colour slides,correspondence etc.

I hope someday we will know the circumstances of O'Neill XS-11 scientist-astronaut candidacy being rejected by NASA in July 1967. If nothing too personal, of course - just the point of view NASA. Their reasons.
