Contacted the FAA about the mixed messages and got this response from an agency spokesperson: “We will continue working with SpaceX to resolve outstanding safety issues before we approve the next test flight.” Similar to what they said yesterday.
I have evacuated Boca Chica Village ahead of today’s Starship SN9 flight attempt. 🤞🔥🚀🔥@NASASpaceflight
I have been informed that I may return home to Boca Chica Village. No Starship SN9 flight attempt today. #WenHop continues. 🔥🚀🔥@NASASpaceflight
An official with knowledge of the FAA’s thinking pushed back against Musk’s allegations and said the agency had been in constant contact with SpaceX over the flight and was very close to issuing the modification to the license required for the flight. The agency is “not purposefully slowing the process down,” said the person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal processes. The FAA has “a responsibility to the American people and particularly those who live in the southern Texas area to make sure they are not put at undue risk.”
FAA statement on SpaceX's Starship SN9:"We will approve the modification only after we are satisfied that SpaceX has taken the necessary steps to comply with regulatory requirements."
New road closures for Starship SN9 flight Mon-Wed. High winds Monday, Tuesday looks ideal with light variable wind and sunny skies. My fav pic from yesterday by @considercosmos
Hearing that the earliest for SpaceX SN9 flight is Tuesday, pending FAA approval. Which matches what @nextspaceflight reported re road closures in Boca Chica. Also hearing FAA has spent the weekend working to get license approved.
