Revell 1/24 Gemini

I’ve had this kit in my stash for a long time, lost the box, decals, and instructions, but the whole kit was still there in its bag, so I decided to start it about a month ago. I ordered Rick Sternbach’s decals and got instructions on the Revell Germany website, plus Mike Mackowski’s Gemini booklets online.
Have nearly finished this. This will be Gemini 8, Neil and Dave.

I'll even excitedly look forward to "flags and footprints" and suborbital missions. Just fly...somewhere.

I had one of these way back in the last millennium when I was a kid. Cool!

I had that kit in the early 1980s, too. Great kit, but it was always very precariously perched on that stand.

Bubbinski - the level of your modeling skills far exceeds mine! Great job! I had a Gemini model back in the 60s, but it didn't wind up looking like that...

I had the Revell 1/24th Gemini as a child, myself. It was absolutely my favorite, with authentic detailing and the opportunity to make a very good-looking model. Heck, a model where you can see the crews' faces through their visors? You betcha!
I only have one issue with the model -- with all Gemini models, in fact. The horizon scanners Gemini used for attitude reference, and slaving the platform to a given local vertical, were launched with that sort of kidney-bean-shaped cover over them, at the break in the conical form to the cylindrical base of the rendezvous and recovery section (the nose). On orbit, that cover was jettisoned, revealing the horizon scanners. See the detail below -- the scanner pallet moved 90 degrees after its fairing was jettisoned. revealing two open-sided cylinders. They held sensors that nodded, one up-down and one back-forth, relative the the spacecraft frame of reference. They could see the horizon (in daylight, sometimes under a full Moon) and fed that data to the FDAI balls on the crew displays.
I'd love to see one of these 1/24th Gemini kits with the on-orbit horizon scanner detail. Do any of the customization houses make this as a replacement part for the 1/24th Gemini, does anyone know?
