Wow.  It looks good.  I read the Foundation Trilogy fifty years ago.  It was my introduction to science fiction.  I hope they do it justice.

Eh it looks a bit cheap to be honest and that opening statement is cringeworthy (Star Wars of all sci-fi, seriously?).

I'm not very optimistic about this one. I think it's difficult to make into a TV series.

Star Wars may be SF in only the very loosest of terms (pop scifi?) but it was wildly successful with general audiences, has made an enormous cultural impact, and inspired a lot of people to delve into harder SF.  I think it's a fair reference.

I wish I had the time and opportunity to watch someof these new shows.  But I'll probably just have to stick to the books for now.  It's not like we can have anything on the TV that's not preschool-appropriate right now anyway :-\

I think it should be fine, and just from that trailer there is enough 'magic' technology to put it in the star wars side of sci fi. As the books progress foundation moves more into sci fi fantasy anyway, very much in the vain of star wars, so I don't see the problem. Looking forward to this, it will be interesting to see what they change and how they evolve the series of the long timespan of the books.

The trailer looks more like Prelude to Foundation than anything within the main trilogy.  The little child seems to be asking for a hug from R. Daneel Olivaw, for example... or Chetter Hummin, his name in the Prelude novel.

If they can do a good job of showing me what Trantor in all of its Imperial glory would look like, I'll be happy with it at that level, regardless.  But nothing in the trailer itself resembled (to me) anything I had ever imagined of Terminus, Salvor Hardin, Hober Mallow, etc., etc.  The characters looked like the most outlandish creations a Galactic Empire in all of its debauched decadence could possibly create... and the Foundation was a group of no-nonsense physical scientists.

Maybe the square Foundation scientists just aren't visually interesting enough for the trailer?  Let's hope.
