Falcon Heavy 3D print
« on: 06/16/2020 10:06 pm »
Hi All,

First post on the forums after far to many hours watching Cylinders in Boca Chica with you all. Anyway, just though I would say hello and also to post a photo of my finished Falcon Heavy 3D print. Far too many hours on this print, but am very happy with it.

Upright standing it would be even more beautiful.

Very nice!

Did you print it yourself? If so, what kind of printer and software did you use? I'm thinking of experimenting with 3D printing...

Very nice!  Please share more info.  What’s the scale, and where did you find the files?  FDM or SLA?

I’ve gotten my printer unjammed and leveled and have done 2 Starman prints and one ACES pumpkin suit in 1/12 scale in the last couple of days.  I’ve seen a couple Falcons up for sale, and would love a good review.

Try 3D printing its great. There is so many FREE 3D pintables available and you can change the scale to what you want but so far smaller to larger is easier than big to small but all do able.

Hi All,

Thank you for the welcome.

The 3D printer I use is a Flashforge Finder and the Filament is 1.75mm PLA. I found the Falcon Heavy and Falcon 9 files at this link here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4101254. The Strongback Print is here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2779030. Due to the limitations of the Flashforge Finder, I reduced the size of the original models by 50%. The length of the Falcon Heavy above is 405mm. For the decals I just looked for the imagery of Falcon Heavy, then copied them into photoshop and then printed onto some Decal Printer paper.

The 3D print was done on Hyper settings so that the layers are not a defined, makes for a smoother model. The downside to this is that altogether there is about 100+hrs of print time.

Am working on a model of the Falcon 9 DM2 whilst on the launch pad at the moment. I did the landed booster from that mission which is in the photo's below (Excuse the mess of my desk).

P.S. For some reason the pictures I upload are always sideways. Sorry about that.

Sorry, then you are probably doing something wrong.

No. There is a well-known bug in the meta data settings of some image applications. As a result "sideways" images can be found all over the forum.
