Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Booster 1049.5. Its five time mission: to boost strange new payloads, to seek out new flights and new utilizations. To boldly land when no booster has landed before!

ASDS Landing Bingo returns for a warp speed 6 hour game for Starlink L7, launching only one day after the last booster from DM-2 returned to port and marking the first time two droneships were at sea on duty at one time. It seems like SpaceX has their ASDS mojo back and the program is advancing as relentlessly as the Borg.

Tonight B1049.5 steps back into the spotlight for Deck Trek V, trying to be the first booster to fly and land successfully for a fifth flight. Will it soar like the Enterprise or crash like that one sequel directed by William Shatner? We shall find out soon!

So, once again the game is afoot! No shotgun start, the game is immediately open!

The game remains as played in prior iterations. If its not broke don't fix it. :)

Pick your square, one per player. Closest square to the center engine when it comes to a halt gets the prize!

This includes post landing walkabouts, or Octograbber nudges!

No prize for fireballs, debris, or damage on deck!

If it hits the ship, goes kaboom, punctures holes in the deck, falls over in transit, there is no winner.  Only a booster standing tall and triumphant as the ASDS sails into the harbor will generate a win!

Water squares are meaningless, except for "I told you so" bragging rights. If it falls in the sea, no winners.

This thread remains the official record of who chose what square when. For that reason any edited pick post is invalid.

Use Dan's scraper to see which spots have gone:

http://asds.dansdoorway.com

NOTE: There may sometimes be a slight delay of a few minutes at most between scraper updates, so check the last few posts before yours too, just to be sure. Scraper is operational as of this edit.  Thanks to DanielW for setting the scraper up, it helps a lot!

Judging is by me, Helodriver using imagery analysis of JRTI sailing back into the harbor to help determine a winner. Rocketcams, helicopter or drone shots, and landing coverage will also be used, but where it sits at the time of unloading will be final.

Winner gets a one year EL TWO membership for free! If a current EL TWO member, you can donate it to another member or add it to your own term length.

The winner will also get a unique SpaceX artifact suitable for display or resale on Ebay to Bill Carton!  (the Roadie here on NSF)
 ;)

Good luck SpaceX, Good luck Starlink L7! Good Hunting JRTI and good luck to NSF readers too!

Outside the lab, the light was beginning to fade. An array of lenses and mirrors were spread out in front of me, in a desperate attempt to catch a glimpse of the elusive spectrum I’d been searching for. Raindrops in the night became the impatient drumming of a thousand tiny fingers.

I'll try again, O-20  please :-)

Preliminary triangulation shows that we did! :o  That's usually about 90% correct. Final judging will happen when we get close up pix on port return! Interesting times!

I think I can make out part of "Just Read The Instructions" on the left. If so, the camera position is to the right in the image used for the scraper. That would fit IMHO, as that's the way it is on OCICLY.

The scraper image is just approximate to let folks know what squares are available. The actual image for judging is whatever Helodriver puts in the opening post for each round. At least I think that is how he does it since I have updated the image on the site for more years than I care to think about.

Shot number 2 should help. I think an empty square:

#1 I really like this one, showing the very recognizable coastline of the Cape.
#2 This one should help anyone who played landing bingo on this mission.
#3 Looking east down the port channel.
#4 Oh, @Explorationtwr, when will you open back up?

Edit to add: slight different angle in last shot here

Deck Trek V: The Final Frontier, No booster had survived passing through the Great Barrier to a fifth landing, failing while going where no booster had gone before.

That is until B1049.5 succeeded where the last had tried and died! It was a well off center landing, with the booster visibly skating along the deck for quite a distance before stopping, but a good landing is any landing that the booster comes back in one piece upright. That kind of slide keeps the game interesting!  8)

Sailing in aboard the newly recommissioned Just Read the Instructions, this booster has entered the realm of the Undiscovered Country with more flight time than any other orbital class rocket booster in history.

There to meet JRTI and 1049.5, the Cape Canaveral space paparazzi, photographing the vessels from every angle including some gorgeous aerial shots by Matt Jordan and Steve Marr of Next Horizons Spaceflight that eliminated the need to do any complicated sea level triangulation of booster landed position. The aerials, plus the shot from SpaceX's ASDS video aboard during landing allowed position and orientation determination with extreme accuracy, confirming the initial place assessment from the SpaceX video.

Without further ado, the winning square was N-27 chosen by NOBODY AT ALL! The first time this has happened for an intact landing!

Via the rules of the contest, in this event the winner is the person who chooses the closest square to the landing spot, and in this case the spot immediately to the "left," N-26 is in closest proximity and is winner by default, so niwax has won this round! Congratulations! Get in touch via message and a suitable SpaceX artifact prize will be enroute!

ASDS Landing Bingo Will Return - Maybe with a direct winner next time!  ;D
