I just read a rumor that there might be 5-6 launches for the Chinese this month, including 2 "bachelor-swords". Could this be a hint of......2 new rockets flying for the first time? (since they would be "bachelors" with zero flight experience ;)) Maybe even both the LM-6 and LM-11 flying within this month?

If so, I don't know what to say, except for "Wow.".  :o

At least we don't need to care about any launch from Jiuquan until late this month (the same source indicates that it would be a launch of the LM-2D and it would be "after Mid-Autumn Festival", which for this year is on September 28; also claims that the payload might not be YG-28 as some guessed)

Well CCTV said a while back that CZ-11 had completed ground testing and was already manufacturing for the flying suborbital and orbital tests.

That's what everybody guesses for the past few months, but given how the Chinese wrapped this thing's development in complete secrecy (even more than the CZ-6), it could be ready and no one really knows.

I guess there's a chance that we won't know until after it flies.  ;) :-X

I do not know of any info supporting a launch this year at this time. All I know is that it was briefly mentioned on late night segment on CCTV about the next generation launchers that manufacturing of flight units had begun and that was from early June.

And oh my word....ham radio operators has confirmed parts of this rumor!

- The CZ-6 first flight is now planned on September 19. 20 satellites are on board with 8 of them being amateur ham radio mini-sats.

- The CZ-11 first flight is apparently on September 25 - payload will be 3 amateur ham radio mini-sats.

- The launch of the Jilin-1 EO constellation is planned on October 5, where 1 other amateur ham radio mini-sat will be launched as a secondary payload.
(which reminds me that I still need to translate info about Jilin-1 to NSF.....)

Also I retract my previous statement on the status at Jiuquan as I have mis-understood the hint given - while the original wording is "after the mooncake" which lead me to believe that member is referring to the Mid-Autumn Festival, I suddenly realize that this word actually rhymes with "military parade" in Mandarin. That means that the next launch out of there might happen within a few days from now, after tomorrow's WWII anniversary military parade in Beijing.

Add to that at least one launch from Xichang (and maybe even 2 if they could get LC-3 into use), and maybe another one from Taiyuan this month, and we can now understand the "5-6 launches" quote.

Looks like my Chinese spaceflight info gatherer job might be getting a lot more complex this month....  :o

In the next month or two I am expecting a new Kuaizhou launch.   The first one operated for a year before being boosted to a higher orbit - and then following a long period of orbital decay it started orbit maintenance manoeuvres once more.   The second has been in orbit for around ten months now so that might be boosted to a "semi-retirement" orbit soon.
I've always been crazy but it's kept me from going insane - WJ.

And this member continues to follow up - he said there should be at least 5 launches this month:

Xichang:

- unknown military payload with codename "QS-3" - CZ-3B (Chinese SBIRS? Experimental milcomsat?)
- 20th BDS navigation satellite - CZ-3B (which means chances are that it is a geostationary orbit bound bird)

Jiuquan:

- unknown military payload - CZ-2D (may launch in the next few days?)
- CZ-11 first launch on Sept. 25 (3 ham radio satellites - probably TW-1)

Taiyuan:

- CZ-6 first launch on Sept. 19
- (uncertain) unknown military payload - CZ-?

Some rumors on our friends 9ifly Chinese space forum of a launch on September 12 using a CZ-3B.

Apparently this would be the launch of the 20th BDS navsat, with the secret payload later in September. The launches of the other 2 sites are listed in sequence on the last post.

So there were 45 orbital and 5 suborbital CZ-2/CZ-2C launches. Two suborbital CZ-2C launches in 2014 for now. When were other three suborbital CZ-2C launches?

I shall try to analyze.

Now we have eight suborbital CZ-2/CZ-2C launches.

Five of them are CZ-2C launches for WU-14/DF-ZF tests: January 9, 2014; August 7, 2014; December 2, 2014; June 7, 2015; August 20, 2015.

One possible CZ-2C launch on July 24, 2012: http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=22808.msg933640#msg933640

By the way, we have the following missing serial numbers of CZ-2C: Y22, Y29, Y30, Y33 and Y34. We can assume that Y22 was launched on July 24, 2012. And we can assume that other four rockets were launched for WU-14/DF-ZF tests.

Two possible CZ-2 launches. Igor Lissov has found serial numbers of four orbital CZ-2 launches: 01Y3 (701403) for November 5, 1974; 01Y4 (701504) for November 26, 1975; 01Y5 for December 7, 1976; 01Y6 for January 26, 1978. So we should have two missing CZ-2 rockets - 01Y1 and 01Y2. And, obviously, their launches were suborbital.

Well... Igor has told me that 01Y1 and 01Y2 were DF-5 rockets launched on September 10, 1971 and April 8, 1973. So the question about two missing orbital CZ-2/CZ-2C launches remains...

The TSLC launch July 24, 2012 is attributed to the first flight of a DF-41 missile (see http://freebeacon.com/manchu-missile-launch/)
