Starlink will be installed on additional @flyjsx jets in the weeks ahead; so as soon as you walk on your flight, the internet works

From reddit: Starlink advertised at Tauranga Airport, New Zealand

The Dear Moon crew announcement this week is a reminder of the Tsunami of publicity Starship will bring to SpaceX. Starlink marketing will go along for the ride. Polaris 3 and then Dear Moon seem likely to take global attention to Space and SpaceX to an entirely different level than any historical precedent. Apollo 11 produced a lot of excitement and attention - but in world where most people didn’t even have access to a TV much less a smartphone and where the people involved and the coverage were not especially well crafted to get popular attention.

Conversely, I know of a few people who know of and/or use Starlink, who have no idea Starship exists, they just live in the boonies and needed internet.

Something like Dear Moon or the Polaris missions could change awareness of Starship dramatically, of course, but I think we enthusiasts on this forum overestimate the degree to which most people follow anything space related, or understand the difference between a SLS and a Starship for the future of space.  They are both big rockets, right, how different could they be?  /s

Sadly, most of the general public and press think if it's space related,  it's somehow NASA. Doesn't matter if it is a commercial launch,  or a DOD satellite.

For the general public, SoaceX after NASA does have  the highest space related brand recognition

Japanese telecommunications company KDDI signed an agreement with SpaceX to become an "authorized Starlink integrator" and offer service to "enterprise and civil government customers:"

Starlink kicks off Asia expansion in search of more subscribers

Quote from: SpaceNews
Starlink is deepening its foothold in Japan as SpaceX’s satellite broadband service looks to expand elsewhere in Asia, which will be critical for generating much-needed revenues.

Japanese telco KDDI announced a deal Oct. 12 to resell Starlink to its enterprise and civil government customers this year — days after SpaceX said it had launched its first services in Asia through Japan.

Starlink is currently available around Tokyo and a part of the country extending north of the megalopolis, according to its availability map. The company expects to make the service available elsewhere in Japan before the end of this year.

Gut feeling is the gateway might be collocated on KDDI teleport properties in Sendai, judging by the east half of japan mapping. If they had a bit more coverage to the west of Tokyo covering the Mt.Fuji and Shizuoka area, they would be able to cover all the vacation homes up in the hills/mountains with ease. They are also not covering the northwestern end of the Kanto plain which has quite a bit of manufacturing/warehousing, where incumbent fiber optic providers have pricing/availability that some might consider predatory.

KDDI is doing a push with Starlink now, with personal and business oriented services.

Apparently there's a sappy ad on railway on-board advertising screens in Tokyo of a woman at home and a lumberjack out in the field, advertising Starlink, but I can't seem to find it on youtube...

SpaceX inches toward launching internet satellite service Starlink in S. Korea

Quote from: yna.co.kr
SpaceX, a U.S. space company owned by Elon Musk, has applied for business registration with South Korean authorities to roll out its network of satellite internet service Starlink, sources said Friday.

SpaceX filed the request with the Ministry of Science and ICT earlier this month to launch Starlink in the country, according to the sources.

SpaceX is expected to set up a subsidiary here to qualify for registration.

Anuvu gets deal to resell Starlink to maritime customers amid Telesat uncertainty

Quote from: SpaceNews
Mobile satellite connectivity specialist Anuvu said Jan. 17 it has signed a deal to resell Starlink services as plans to use a rival constellation proposed by Telesat remain uncertain.

Anuvu said it has permission to resell broadband from SpaceX’s low Earth orbit (LEO) network to maritime customers, complementing the services it already provides in this and other markets from geostationary orbit (GEO).

Los Angeles-headquartered Anuvu leases capacity from dozens of GEO satellites to provide Wi-Fi on boats, aircraft, and remote locations worldwide.

Carnival Expands Wi-Fi Connectivity with SpaceX’s Starlink

Quote from: prnewswire.com
MIAMI, Jan. 18, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), the world's largest cruise company, today announced an agreement for the next-generation of internet connectivity across its global fleet, the latest in a series of moves that have nearly tripled ship bandwidth since 2019. The company has signed a new agreement with SpaceX's Starlink, the leader in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology, to provide faster service, greater capacity and more reliable Wi-Fi on a global scale.

Fleet roll-out of Starlink began in December 2022 with Carnival Cruise Line and AIDA Cruises ships, with plans to expand Starlink to several of the company's other world-class cruise brands, which include Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Seabourn, P&O Cruises (Australia), Costa Cruises, P&O Cruises (UK) and Cunard.

Looks to be a significant amount of the McMurdo campus has access. Possibly greater than 20% of the population and locations. Obviously there is not much if any (ZERO) competition for bandwidth to the satellites. With H265 compression 150Mbps gives 10-4K real-time video streams or 30+ 1080P streams simultaneously per Starlink terminal. A single sat with using only one channel can support at least 5 connected terminals so loaded for a total of 50 4k streams or 150+ 1080P streams. With use of all of the available 8 channels from the 1 sat that is 400 4K streams and >1200 1080P streams. A total effective available bandwidth for all of McMurdo of >6Gbps.

EDIT: needed to correct my math.

From reddit: Japan using Starlink connected drone to deliver emergency supplies in Chichibu

Article: https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000113.000067172.html

Not easy to translate but it seems that some homes were cutoff from road due to landslide, and several companies include KDDI (Starlink's partner in Japan) are using remotely controlled drones to deliver supplies to them.
