At the pole the maximum elevation of a Starlink sat should be 31.7°.

How long an individual satellite will be above the horizon or above 25° is too big a calculation for my envelope*, but at the very least there will be frequent intermittent communications suitable for email and transferring files.

*Truthfully, it fit on the envelope, but got an obviously wrong answer.

With a bigger envelope I get the following answers, they are plausible, but I only have moderate confidence.

Any give satellite will be above the horizon for 43.137/360 of it's orbit.  So for a single plane of 17 satellites at least 2 will be above the horizon at any one time.

Any given satellite will be above 25° elevation for only 6.88/360 of it's orbit.  On average 1/52 will be above 25° elevation at any one time.  There are significantly more than 52 satellites in the shell so there should almost always be one that high at any one time.  Unless all the planes in a shell are carefully phased there may be rare brief occasions where no satellite is that high, this will cause a drop out or force it to connect at a slightly angle.

Edit to add:
A station at the south pole is also going to test Starlinks software.  There are ill conditioned versions of the equations that will result in a divide by zero at the pole and floating point overflow close to the pole.  I'd mount the dish as far north as possible.   :)

Frontier Airlines recently held talks with SpaceX about adding Starlink Wi-Fi

Quote from: CNBC
Frontier Airlines “recently” held discussions with SpaceX about adding its Starlink satellite internet service to its planes and is more hopeful about adding such a product than in previous years, the carrier’s CEO told CNBC on Thursday.

Adding Starlink’s Wi-Fi would be a departure for the budget carrier, which doesn’t currently offer inflight internet service. CEO Barry Biffle says skipping Wi-Fi for now allows the airline to be more “green” because it limits weight on board.

Microsoft Azure ramps up access to cloud computing via SpaceX’s Starlink satellites

Quote from: geekwire.com
With SpaceX’s help, Microsoft is taking the next step toward merging cloud computing with available-anywhere satellite connectivity.

Today Microsoft announced the start of a private preview for Azure Orbital Cloud Access, which lets users link up with the cloud in a single hop from virtually anywhere via SpaceX’s Starlink satellite constellation.

For now, the preview is limited to Microsoft Azure’s government customers. But Jason Zander, executive vice president of Microsoft strategic missions and technologies, said “we are currently working toward general availability and commercial expansion.”

Arrgh. That would be a "single IP hop". Within the Starlink network there will be multiple layer 2 hops before a packet hits the peer-to-peer IP gateway from Starlink to Azure or the Starlink commercial terminal within Azure.

Bandwidth-hungry regional satellite operators hunting for options

Quote from: SpaceNews
KT Sat is talking to SpaceX’s Starlink and others developing low Earth orbit (LEO) broadband constellations to add capacity in Asia.

Starlink is exploring “the opportunity to work with partners around the globe,” said Jonathan Hofeller, vice president of Starlink commercial sales at SpaceX, said Sept. 13.

“Between now and the end of the year, that’s something that I’m personally trying to drive,” he said, “and figuring out how we can impact more people.”

SpaceX filing shows plans to bring Starlink to U.S. school buses

Quote from: teslarati.com
SpaceX plans to bring Starlink internet to students on school buses in the U.S., according to a new filing with the Federal Communications Commission.

The space exploration company is collaborating with several school districts for pilot projects in rural areas of the country to support students who have to travel on long bus routes. This gives students internet access while on those long rides.

SpaceX is focusing on school bus routes that are over an hour long each way and are also predominantly inaccessible to other mobile broadband services. In a letter addressed to FCC Secretary Marlene Dortch, SpaceX expressed its support for the agency’s efforts to fund the Schools and Libraries Universal Service Support Mechanism (E-Rate program) connecting millions of students who don’t have access to broadband internet.

Marlink to offer Starlink to maritime and enterprise customers

Quote from: SpaceNews
Maritime connectivity specialist Marlink will offer Starlink to its customers as SpaceX’s broadband service turns to partners to expand beyond the consumer market.

Marlink and OmniAccess, its division focusing on high-end superyachts and boutique cruise lines, said Sept. 22 they have become “authorized Starlink integrators” for maritime and enterprise customers.

The agreement combines connectivity from Starlink’s low Earth orbit constellation with terrestrial networks and capacity the service providers lease from commercial satellites in geostationary orbit.

Students in rural Virginia to get SpaceX Starlink thanks to $233,000 grant

Quote from: driveteslacanada.ca
More students in rural Virginia with limited or no internet access will soon be able to browse the web using SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service through a $233,000 grant from The Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA).

The funds, which came from VCEDA’s Education and Telehealth Access Fund and was matched with $155,000 from Wise County, will allow 94 students to receive Starlink service.

This now brings the total number of households with supported Starlink service to 274, and the number of students with Starlink to 438. Previously the Appalachian Council for Innovation received a grant to provide Starlink to 340 students in Wise County.

Possible names:
StarlinK Roaming US

and a more advanced service:
Starlink Roaming International

Those 2 in addition to the:
Starlink
Starlink Business Class
Starlink Marine
Starlink Marine Business Class
Starlink Aircraft (Private)
Starlink Aircraft Commercial

And the
Starlink basic (lower data rates)

Starlink Government Classes (2)-[Local Class (includes education organizations), State and Federal Class]
Starlink Military (includes roaming international, Aircraft, Marine with combo of normal to higher data rates)

The list could be quite long since it is a single backbone system at a fixed bit rate that enables many applicable data throughput rates by selectively throttling/prioritizing packet traffic based on type of subscription.

Starlink kicks off Asia expansion in search of more subscribers

Quote from: SpaceNews
Starlink is deepening its foothold in Japan as SpaceX’s satellite broadband service looks to expand elsewhere in Asia, which will be critical for generating much-needed revenues.

Japanese telco KDDI announced a deal Oct. 12 to resell Starlink to its enterprise and civil government customers this year — days after SpaceX said it had launched its first services in Asia through Japan.

Starlink is currently available around Tokyo and a part of the country extending north of the megalopolis, according to its availability map. The company expects to make the service available elsewhere in Japan before the end of this year.

I just saw this posted elsewhere.

Can someone explain why this person is talking rubbish?
Where is the flaw in their logic?

They're basically trying to explain why Starlink isn't viable on multiple levels......???
