A new batch of Starlink stations! While Russia is blocking access to the Internet, Ukraine is becoming more open to the entire world. Ukraine is the truth. The truth always wins. Thank you, @elonmusk, the Government of Poland, and Orlen.

You want to be inspired by things. You want to wake up in the morning and think the future is going to be great. That's what being a spacefaring civilization is all about. It's about believing in the future and believing the future will be better than the past. And I can't think of anything more exciting than being out there among the stars.

Intelsat rolls out network service that integrates Starlink and geostationary satellites

Quote from: SpaceNews
If you can’t beat them, join them. That is the thinking behind a new managed network service offered by satellite operator Intelsat that integrates geostationary satellites, SpaceX’s Starlink low Earth orbit constellation and cellular broadband.

“A lot of our customers would like to use Starlink and many have been using it,” Don Claussen, Intelsat’s vice president of business development, told SpaceNews at last week’s Satellite 2022 conference.

Satellite communications companies “spend so much time fighting each other over what orbits are better, what band is better,” he said. “If we’re really listening to our customers, what they are saying is ‘we kind of need all of you.’”

Well that sure falls into the "about time" category doesn't it?

US Military is of the same opinion that use of all is better than any single one service.

As far as I can tell, this is basically just co-marketing and a regulatory "truce". It only becomes useful when the same terminal can use the same antenna to communicate with both types of satellite. It only becomes truly useful when an integrated system allows for near-seamless switchover.

Other possibilities include: Using Starlink for backhaul for a cell tower(s) - and using that to provide internet.  Using Starlink as a bridge to local cabling, say in a village or apartment complex. In these cases, the Geostationary AND Starlink, provide redundancy, and as the Starlink can take the lower latency load and Geostationary, bulk data that is not latency sensitive.

The end user buys from Intelsat, and does not have multiple sets of equipment. They don't know where Intelsat buys their backhaul, or connects sections of their network. s/he just pays Intelsat.
This is just logical conjecture on my part... IANA telecoms engineer.

It appears that the Philippines is favorably processing Starlink's application to provide service through a wholly-owned subsidiary.  3 gateways planned at this time.

Donating dishes to Ukraine, was the right thing, it also is the best marketing that Starlink could have ever received.  Global exposure!
Starship, Vulcan and Ariane 6 have all reached orbit.  New Glenn, well we are waiting!

I am sure that helped, but I would guess the Tongan volcano response was closer to home and more impactful.

There were rumors Tier1, the only new cellular network provider (not an MVNO) in a long time there, was teaming up with Starlink to cut down on transit and hardware costs...

Here's an interesting announcement from USAID, a government agency...

USAID SAFEGUARDS INTERNET ACCESS IN UKRAINE THROUGH PUBLIC-PRIVATE-PARTNERSHIP WITH SPACEX
For Immediate Release
Tuesday, April 5, 2022
Office of Press Relations
[email protected]
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has delivered 5,000 Starlink Terminals to the Government of Ukraine through a public-private partnership with the American aerospace manufacturer, SpaceX, a private sector donation valued at roughly $10 million.

SpaceX donated 3,667 terminals and the internet service itself, and USAID purchased the additional 1,333 terminals. The Starlink satellite terminals will enable unlimited, unthrottled data connectivity from anywhere in Ukraine. The terminals will allow public officials and critical citizen service providers to continue to communicate within Ukraine and with the outside world, even if Putin’s brutal aggression severs Ukraine’s fiber optic or cellular communication infrastructure connections.

Since Putin’s unprovoked, further invasion of Ukraine on February 24, USAID has been working closely with humanitarian partners in Ukraine and in the region to reach Ukrainians with lifesaving humanitarian assistance while also ramping up development programs to respond to cyber attacks, disinformation, threats to the energy sector, essential health needs, and to support the continued functioning of local and national government entities.

For citizens who want to help get vital assistance to Ukrainians in need, there’s one thing to remember: cash is best. That’s because it’s efficient, flexible, and allows humanitarian organizations on the ground to buy what’s most needed, quickly. A bunch more Starlink terminals were also bought and donated by Poland and France - by now Ukraine might have around 8K terminals.

Delta Air Lines Tested SpaceX’s Starlink Internet for Planes, Delta CEO Says

Quote from: WSJ
Elon Musk’s satellite-internet business is pushing to provide wireless internet on airplanes—long a source of frustration among travelers—with at least one major carrier, Delta Air Lines Inc., testing the offering.

The Atlanta-based airline has held talks with SpaceX’s broadband unit, called Starlink, and conducted exploratory tests of Starlink’s technology, Delta Chief Executive Ed Bastian said in a recent interview. He declined to discuss specifics.

Is Starlink that important? It wouldn't be possible to restore 10 km of cable connection between villages in Chernigiv region after serious battles so quick. Normally it takes few months. Another case: provider Baryshivka-Net resumed the network for 5 villages by using only 1 📡.
