Thanks.

I was thinking Wakata might be the first Japanese CDR.
Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.

Whatever became of Sergey Zhukov, and considering his background, why was he ever selected in the first place?

And for that matter, Sergei Revin. He was selected in 1996 and the next available slot is probably 2014. An 18 year wait, if he's lucky.

Sergei Revin will be part of Exp 29/30 (Soyuz-TMA 22). Or did something change without me noticing?

And is there any chance for Zhukov to fly -- or is he already removed from the cosmonaut group?

Zhukov joined the TsPK (now unified) cosmonaut team last year, being 'independent' cosmonaut several years before, and he *is* expected to fly in due time ;-)
As to his background, he's the only and unique example of a self-made cosmonaut. Zhukov was instrumental in establishing Russian Space Agency in 1992, and former GD Yuri Koptev always felt he owed Sergey a lot.

Samokutyavev is a charming man and in an interview here in Houston he did admit that his name was unusual, and he told me it is the melding of two separate family names, Samov and Kutyaev, several generations back.

He was present during a "children event" at TsPK in february 2011. Note that Irina Soliovyova was present too, so it may not mean that he is back in the Cosmonaut Corps.  :)

The information was provided by the well-informed Mr. Shamsutdynow. He said, that it was due to an order by the Head of the TsPK.
That´s why I think the information is correct.
By the way, last year was an information on the NK forum, that S. Zalyotin has passed the GMK.

Perhaps a little off topic, but it did discuss a Cosmonaut's assignment to a mission.

On April 12, President Medvedev awarded the title Hero of Russia and the Gold Star medal to cosmonauts Mikhail Korniyenko, Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Skripochka.

Alexander Kaleri and Oleg Kotov received the Order for Services to the Fatherland, IV degree, and Scott Kelly the new medal Merits in space exploration.

Other cosmonauts (including Tereshkova, Leonov) and foreign astronauts flying on the Soyuz (like Prunariu, Claudie Haignere) received honors as well.

I've met with Maksim Souraiev yesterday (in Toulouse, for Yuri's Night), and he confirmed that he was delayed from TMA-06M to TMA-09M for health reasons.
