Is SS2 sooner or later?
« on: 09/19/2005 05:01 am »
I wonder. This has not really kept up the momentum that they could have gone for after SS1. Won't be funding. Red tape seems to be gone. I wonder what the hold up is only a year or so before Branson's meant to be ready to fly.

Rutan and his employees have always been good at keeping their project details secret. I would bet that only Branson himself knows what's really going on behind the hanger doors.

If Branson does know, you can expect it to make a tabloid here pretty soon. That guy is a media whole.
Let's go and explore space.

Or against Richard Branson... I dont recall anything he has given up on.. Can anyone recall a Branson total failure without a full attempt at corrections?

Unlike Boeing, Lockmart et al, Rutan has incentive to deliver his product.  My bet:

99% chance that SS2 will be delivered no more than 3 mos late.

95% chance that SS2 will be delivered on time and within budget.

80% chance that SS2 will be delivered early and under budget.

And don't forget Rutan has two projects on his plate now...he has to finish SpaceShipTwo and get those to Branson, and then he also has to convice NASA that T/Space is the way to go for ISS.
Two big space projects for such a small company, I wouldn't be surprised if they are a few months late. And don't be surprised if things go slow, they really are the first to truly attempt this private spaceline thing. Sure others have had stuff down on paper, but they are truly the first to start cutting metal and giving us a realistic timeline.
