Lego ISS model
« on: 05/20/2019 07:53 pm »
Lego Ideas have set up a special anniversary review. Four models have been pre-approved, and we get to vote for one of the four to be made into a real set. The ISS is one of those four. See it all and vote here: https://ideas.lego.com/blogs/a4ae09b6-0d4c-4307-9da8-3ee9f3d368d6/post/c9233086-9edf-405f-8f48-7d37c86f8901

I was too fast - I mistook comments made as votes cast.

It won the recent vote of 4 models previously rejected by LEGO but put up a public vote:

Big congratulations to XCLD whose design has achieved an unprecendeted 45.6% of all the votes cast - an incredible achievement in short fan vote period. It continues to show the huge desire for space and space exploration among the LEGO Ideas community.

I have the Saturn V and the Moon lander but I can't say I am terribly excited about this one... Also, will it really be able to hang together? Looks very flimsy and difficult to handle in 1G.

The LEGO ISS set will be $69.99 for 864 pieces. The final build is 49cm long, making it smaller scale than the Lego Saturn V. The shuttle is same size as 'Women of NASA' set but different design. Will of course do a build video and explain what all the bits do.

I know this is just a small desktop model, not incredibly detailed, but still it's very cool.  I think I'll put this on my birthday list and put it on my desk at work.

I'll even excitedly look forward to "flags and footprints" and suborbital missions. Just fly...somewhere.

The wife has just bought the Lego ISS from the local Lego shop in Milton Keynes to join our LM and Saturn V (Which we are still building together over a few weekends).

All we need now is a Shuttle (with tank and SRB's)  :)

Before she bought the LM last summer, I had not touched Lego for 50 years.

Interested to hear if the model feels solid or wobbly.

Have finished Bag 1. Will get to Bag 2 tomorrow.

Shuttle, Cargo Dragon, Starliner, Soyuz all built up.

Bonus: I briefly docked the ISS shuttle and the Women of NASA shuttle.

My son just got his today and started digging into it right after school. It's going to be an awesome weekend.
