The myth of the US-USSR space race was that it was done for scientific prestige.

Behind that is the deeper myth that it was done for nuclear superiority and counterbalance.

The truth is that it was done to save humanity.

Immortal Works (editor Bruce F. Webster) hereby calls for submission for an anthology of SPACE-THEMED ALTERNATE HISTORY to be called THE SECRET LUNAR WARS: 1956-1979.

The President of the United States looked across the Oval Office desk at the Director of NASA, a holdover from the prior administration. “I’m sorry it’s taken so long to have this meeting, but I’m still getting a handle on this job. That said, let me cut to the chase: we sent men to the Moon roughly a half a century ago, but have done nothing since. Why?”

The Director bit his lip, grimaced a bit, then said, “To talk about that, we’ll need to bring the Secretary of Defense and the Director of National Intelligence into the discussion.”

The President, startled, asked, “Why, for heaven’s sake?”

Another grimace. “Because there are – complications – with us, with anyone putting humans on the Moon again. Big complications. Deadly complications. Complications you probably wouldn’t believe. Trust me, we’re not incompetent at NASA. We could have multiple bases on the Moon by now if we wanted to. But we’ve been deliberately dragging our feet on any human mission outside of low Earth orbit since the 1970s. For very good reasons.”

The Secret Lunar Wars is an anthology of alternate history short stories that explains what was really going on during the period of time from the first suborbital rocket launches in 1956 to the fall of Skylab from orbit in 1979. ...

When the new Obama space policy was unveiled a few weeks ago, even those familiar with American space policy could be forgiven for being a little confused. In Washington, budget is policy, and the new NASA budget had reflected a pretty complex new policy, including both budget increases and program cancellations and the creation of several new categories of research and development efforts. But the central feature was the cancellation of the Constellation program. The United States has made the decision to not even try venturing beyond low Earth orbit for the foreseeable future.

Fortunately, it turns out that there is a good explanation for why Obama canceled the Constellation program. That explanation has been provided by Richard C. Hoagland. Hoagland, you may remember, is the person who discovered the lost city on Mars, and a bunch of giant invisible structures on the Moon that he asserts are the remains of alien civilizations. They’re there, he says, but because they are invisible we have to trust him.

Hoagland has come up with a startling revelation… that Obama canceled the lunar program because (drum roll please): he was warned by Space Nazis.

I’m not making this up.

Honest, I am not making this up.

Hoagland recently explained this all on the Coast to Coast AM radio program. It’s also on his website. And this past weekend, for a fee, he explained it to a bunch of people at the “Conscious Life Expo” conference in Los Angeles. It’s a great story.

According to Hoagland, Obama had been prepared to finally give the Constellation program the funding it required to return Americans to the Moon. But then, in December, a remarkable thing happened in the skies over Norway. Right before Obama visited Norway to receive his Nobel Peace Prize, the Russians launched a ballistic missile on a test. The missile sailed into the northern sky and then was stopped in mid-air, grabbed while it was going thousands of miles an hour. It was stopped by some kind of massively powerful mysterious device. And when it was stopped in midair, hundreds of people across Norway saw it, and some photographed it, seeing a weird spiral in the sky that was quickly labeled the “Norway Spiral.”

This was a “double-whammy message” to both Obama and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, “that somebody has the power to stop us,” Hoagland told Coast to Coast host George Noory.

Who? Noory asked.

“Them, out there!” Hoagland replied, “…the secret space program.”

The message was apparently that humanity needed to be “imprisoned” on Earth. Once Obama got the message, he immediately canceled the American lunar program. The secret space program is based on the Moon, and we’re not supposed to go there.

Noory asked if this might have actually been extraterrestrial technology that stopped the Russian missile. Hoagland doesn’t believe that’s the case. He says that what is actually going on dates back to the last days of World War II. As the Allies were closing in, some Nazi scientists took their best technology and fled the Earth, apparently leaving for the Moon, forming “a secret off-world civilization.” There they set up shop and continued to develop their capabilities to the point where their technology is so advanced that they are practically god-like to us in their abilities. Halting the Russian missile is simply the most visible recent example of this, Hoagland said. “The physics are there and it’s all about who is controlling it and what they intend for us.” (My guess is that it’s not going to be nice.)

But of course there’s more going on than us mere mortals stuck on Earth can comprehend. Hoagland says that “there’s a war going on upstairs.” But it’s not clear if the Space Nazis are battling each other—a Space Nazi Civil War—or if they’re battling our government and we civilians don’t know about it. Hoagland believes that terrorism, and events like the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, is the terrestrial manifestation of this war. Apparently there are members of our own government who are involved in battling these Space Nazis, but they have kept Obama in the dark. Hoagland referred to a comment made by Bill Clinton years ago that if the government had information on UFOs, Clinton wished somebody would tell him about it. “If you’re going to freeze out the good ole boy from the South,” Hoagland said, “what about the black guy from Chicago?”

Now one problem with Hoagland’s theory is that it’s contradicted by no less an authoritative source than the Space Frontier Foundation. According to SFF co-founder Bob Werb, people who supported the Ares I rocket are “national socialists,” aka “Nazis.” This is somewhat confusing. If the Space Nazis were running the Ares program, why did the Space Nazis on the Moon blackmail Obama into stopping their program? Now one interpretation is that Werb was simply using the timeworn tactic of labeling anybody he disagrees with as evil and calling them names (where’s Godwin’s Law when you need it?). But frankly, it seems like too much of a coincidence that Werb brought up Nazis at the exact same time that Hoagland says the Space Nazis are making their presence known. Clearly, both men are very concerned about the Space Nazi threat. We’re through the looking glass here, people…

But maybe things will all become much clearer soon. Hoagland is a big proponent of the idea that Hollywood actually reveals secrets about the powers that control us as well as our future. According to Hoagland, George Lucas—again, I’m not making this up—modeled C3PO of his Star Wars movies on an alien sculpture on the Moon. The 1984 movie 2010 was billed as “the year we make contact” because Arthur C. Clarke (or maybe it was the director Peter Hyams) knew that we would ultimately make contact with space aliens in 2010 (keep your fingers crossed!). And soon we will be treated to a movie about Nazis on the Moon. Called Iron Sky, the film has been in the works for awhile now. The movie is being filmed in Finland. Finland! If you look on a map, you’ll see that Finland actually shares a border with Norway—where the Norway Spiral was spotted back in December!

Coincidence? I think not!

So maybe when the Space Nazis movie premieres, it will have some clues to the war that is waging upstairs. Maybe Hoagland and Werb will be in the front row, taking notes and looking for clues about American space policy.
