Bad news... due to rough seas, it sounds like the center core of #falconheavy tipped over 😩 they do have a robot named “octagrabber” that can hold down F9’s but unfortunately it can’t hold down the center core 😔 at least they stuck the landing and proved the system works.

@elonmusk can the octagrabber be used with the FH center core or is this just a rumor? If it can’t be used with the center core, are there plans to make changes so the octagrabber can be used?

It can, but the attachment fixtures are different from standard F9 & they weren’t ready in time

Will you guys attempt to recover any sections of the core or is it likely going to be a total loss?

Jay said he has a slightly longer version (tracks more ascent and more sound), so added that as Unlisted:

This is a bit surprising, if true. I guess FH centre cores are stronger/reinforced.

According to a pilot who flew over OCISLY in a plane the booster is fully intact on the deck, it’s just fallen over...

Should be an interesting sight! @julia_bergeron @

From SpaceX Lounge Reddit, a side core was spotted being put into the 39a hangar today:

I guess FH centre cores are stronger/reinforced.
Probably, but there is also the question of whether the tank was depressurized by that point.  Without internal pressure, without LOX in the tank, I would imagine it would be much less likely to explode.
Following the space program since before Apollo 8.

Slow fleet progress:

Can’t be easy with a booster lying on deck.

The tracking position for both ships was a few hours out-of-date. It now looks like Mr Steven has reached, resupplied and is returning to port.

...and one more shot of the business end of #FalconHeavy B1055. Looks like a few bent nozzles.

#FalconHeavy center core B1055 tipped over due to rough seas. Most of it still remains on board #OCISLY, but the top half is gone.

A landing leg has been removed, looks like they will remove them all before lifting whats left of the core:
